Title: Minimum height and weight requirements....
Post by: The Showstoppa on December 23, 2006, 10:56:21 AM
As many of you may recall, Bruno the gym manager where I lift, instituted a minimum height and weight requirement for different areas of the gym.  Full grown men (ie: 5'10" + and 200lbs+) have a section with larger db's (up to 200lb dbs), etc... while the little guys (ie: under 5'10" and under 200lbs) only have db's up to 50's and stretch tubes, bosu, etc...  The idea was to get the little guys motivated enough put on enough size to workout with the full grown men.  It was decided that the height requirement could be waved, as people can't help it if they are midgets, so long as we decide they overshadow it with their size.  It's been a resounding success.  Tiny tits leaving the gym out of feeble disgust, and the hard workers being rewarded.  You guys might want to encourage the managers of your gyms to institute it.

this is the dumbest shit ive ever seen...so the only reason someone is under 200lbs, or less than 5-10, is because they are not 'working hard enough'? LOL give me a fucking break, talk about delusions...i can just see the 'big' dudes walking around in their little area lats flared, their tight shirts getting sucked into every crease and fold on their bellies, the hotdog rolls scrunched up on the back of their heads thinking their badass cause their 'big' , even though they are 50% bodyfat and look like shit hahahahahaha.

im 5-9 and not over 200lbs, so the biggest dumbells i could use are the 50's? what the fuck am i supposed to do with that?

this is a very stupid idea and may alienate paying customers.
those tiny tits as you call them are the one that pay and show up occasionally. While those "heavy" guys show up every day and abuse your equipment.

Your intention is good but from a business standpoint it will yield negative gains.

matrix, they have both been challenged to post a pix and declined.  Their "squad" is totally broken down and between them and true adonis backing out of the boxing match with da they have lost any reminance of credibility they may have had before guys like us started calling them on it.  One challenge to them was that I bet they couldn't post a pix of themselves looking even as good as I did at 16 years old, hahahahaha, yes 16 and they have declined.  Show stoppa and the other guy are a joke and are only here to insult behind the safety of the internet, hahahahahahahahahhahaha. ...it was so easy to break you guys down and show everyone you couldn't back up any of your words.

Cutting your gym in half for 'big' and 'small' wouldn't work on so many levels.

1.  From a business sense, all the guys under 200lbs are gonna get sick of being stuck with shitty weight dumbells and go to another gym, so you'd lose all that income.

2.  You'd have to buy double the machines to make sure that both sides had enough equipment, or are you saying that the 'little' guys can't use the squat rack / leg press / etc., cos they're not big enough?!

3.  I'm only 168lbs, but I use the 70lb db's, so what would I do?  I also use the dipping bar, pull up station, which 90% of guys over 200lbs won't touch cos they can't lift their flabby arses up.

The only requirement any gym should have is 110% effort.  I don't care how big someone is, it doesn't give them the right to more than the next guy.  I train harder than most of the guys at my gym, the kind of guys who do one set then take 10 mins rest to talk to someone, load the leg press up with eight plates a side then only just bend their knees while shouting at the 'effort', or laugh amongst themselves when someone smaller than them enters the gym.

Don't forget, everyone was under 200lb at one point, and you wouldn't have liked it if you had been segregated to some corner of the gym with the stability ball and the Pilates class.

My gym owner has the longest openede gym in belfast. Also only free weight one left in city center.

Recently about 6 or 7 juiced guys left. He said it was a belessing. They use lots of plates, take up lots of equiitment for long periods of time. use all the dumbells never put them back and saty in the gym for 2 hours.

He says his best customers are the guys who come ion for 25mins buy a drink and sandwich and split. he can make 3x as much money from these guys then the ones who scare away his customers and just annoy/mess up gym etc.

a gym is a business after all. What a shit idea.

Absolutely.  I don't know where your from, but the insurance and taxes are going through the roof as well, just like NY and it's gotten much more populated since I've been here.  I guess most places have gotten more expensive, but I don't think at this rate.
