I drove from Vegas to have my yearly xmans workout. Only the hardcore are there xmas day. Golds is no longer hardcore, for it was actually closed, so We (my wife and I) jogged along the beach. Perhaps 24hr fitness is now more hardcore. I have been doing this workout for 10 years, someone should wake up the owners. It wasn't like no one goes, its had hundreds there each xmas... I'm freakin upset!
I didn't think I'd have to call this year to see if it would be open. Golds venice should never close. Period!

HAHA! Good question!
-
As a gym owner I know they finally woke up to the fact the staff need Christmas off and they save money on holiday wages! Good for Golds.
-
yeah christmas is ok, but other holidays its usually when people want to goto the gym.

Most of the gyms in Melbourne think the same way, thats why I stay open, always 24:7. While all the other gyms are closed, we have had nearly 200 casuals since saturday.
Hardcore people have to train. I thought as a gym owner you would understand that. I dont mean people who want to train, I mean people who NEED to train. A percentage of my gym members and obviously other gyms members, will work out everyday no matter what, it is part of their make up, what makes them tick.
Gym owners tell me all the time that it is crazy to always stay open. What happens next is their members train here when they are shut, they love it and end up joining. 24:7 everyday for nearly 10 years, maybe I am dumb?

I agree 100% a place where people are serious about training or trying to an atmosphere conducive to this attitude gyms should be open as much as possible its rediculous if a gym is closed on all public holidays in my opinion. Hell I went to a gym where it was closed on the "eve" of public holidays also what a joke!

Think of the employees though, you know none of them want to work on christmas. That I can undestand

Sometimes. But if one of your employees is a lonely guy with no family, who is pretty likely to impose on you for dinner (or eat a .38 and ruin your weekly schedule), it might be better to let him work that day so he can associate with others.

WELL THATS TOO BAD I WANT TO WORK OUT. THEY CAN DO CHRISTMAS NEXT YEAR.

Maybe they just figured the world isn't going to come to an end and people wouldn't waste away if the missed a day of training to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ..............just a thought :-\!!

no one celebrates the birth of jesus on christmas

no one celebrates the birth of jesus on christmas
that may have to do with him not being born on the 25th ;D

I'll do that, and in the meantime maybe you can convince the people of the world to change the date of CHRISTtmas!

I respectfully disagree. Most employees in golds (vencie) are hardcore too. Not all, but most. They would love to make time and a half, and al we need is one. Remember people, the golds out in venice is definately not like the one in vegas, or anywhere else in the world. I drove 4 hrs lookin forward the whole way, just to have that one workout. I will go today, but I was bored as shit yesterday, eating junk. That one day off set me back a week.
-
No offense, but only those with NO LIVES outside of BB would care about 1-2 days off. Makes zero difference in training benefits, in fact the break should inspire a better workout the next day.
Find other things to do, enjoy the break in routine!

Really should've checked with them first, but on the other hand your life shouldn't have revolved around a friggin gym either, with Venice Beach right there to enjoy.
Could've gotten good exercise outdoors, renting blades or a bike to use along the beach, or a wetsuit & board, or taken a long walk up and down the boardwalk...and if you really needed a workout while there, why couldn't you have used the outdoor pit on the beach if open, or about as good:

Lucky. Most gym's in my area close at 11.

I dont think those who train Christmas day are hardcore; they just go to seem hardcore..
there is NO REASON why you cant take a day off, and not train on Christmas day.
Kudos to gym owners for closing, sometimes gym goers can get annoying, and stupid; STAYHOME ANS RELAX! YOUR NOT GONNA GET SMALLER OR FATTER NOT TRAINING ON CHRISTMAS DAY OR EASTER.... ::)

Agreed with the pumpster completely. You really have to be a fucking loser to workout on christmas if you celebrate the holiday :-\
-
working out isnt work, its one of the best feelings you can get, so maybe you're a "fucking loser" if you're on a bodybuilding site and you consider working out a chore
-
my gym is open every single day of the year. thats just the way its gotta be. it's a matter of principles. if i wanna work out on christmas day or eve, i should be able to.
gyms closed new years day is probably the worst since a lot of people wanna start off the new year.
-
That "Bites" but I can understand that the staff needs time off too 8) 8)

I agree NO GYM SHOULD BE CLOSED ON NEW YEARS EVE all gym owners take note thats a f'n joke if they are...

If you could read, I said we than went for a jog along the beach. Which I would have done anyway if Golds was open. .
-
the only part I do understand fully is that the Gym staff has family and a life also. one freaking day off is out of 365 is not that serious
-

What i read very clearly is that you went to pieces bitching and whining about it while wolfing down junk food just because of Gold's being closed. You sound like a real downer when there was a lot right there in front of you on the beach including a calithenics workout that could've been kick-ass. Get a life.

There are different kinds of work that can be done, all of which are good. Doesn't have to be weights, on xmas.

haha why're we getting all defensive here.. what I'm saying is that christmas is one day that u're setting aside to enjoy your day with the family that is free of other cares, such as a stupid scheduled workout. It just seems like a very selfish idea to me. So you're wrong to ASSume I'm against working out on christmas cause I think its a chore... asswipe ;)

you really do seem to see working out as a drag, you should probably just quit. take up something you really do love, maybe watercolor could be your passion?
and i dunno how long workouts take most people, but an 8am to 930am workout on christmas before all the hoopla begins seems reasonable to me. maybe you and your boyfriend like to sleep in and snuggle on xmas morning though, and thats OK! for me though i'd just like the option to train
-

whats shitty though is that someone is going to have to get up and open the gym on christmas and sit there all day. Im sure the staff of your gym would like a day off on christmas.
-
if i had a gym i wouldnt mind running it for a few hours over christmas. big deal. there's a lot of jobs that need to be done, holidays or not.
-

No, because these BB pinheads with no life whom the world revolves around feel that it's vital to drag people in to work who would like a holiday.
In other less commercialized countries like England, Australia and Canada to name a few, far fewer companies are open between xmas & new year's. Most places are deserted. A refreshing break from incessant commercialism the rest of the year.

oh brother, first of all I dont celebrate christmas so I dont really know how its looked upon if a person devotes time to such things on christmas. But then it also seems ridiculous to me how you're not willing to miss one freakin workout of the year to just chill and relax... seems to me like you're the one who needs to put his priorities in order. Is working out really that important to you? Others have also mentioned in the thread, and it should be all too obvious, that there are other people who're gonna be working there so YOU can enjoy your little workout on christmas day... again, seems very selfish to me :-\
Also, besides your stupid assumptions, you gotta lay off the haterade.. or the estrogen that you've been packing >:(

the kids who work at my gym could care less im sure, it would only take 2 of them to run the place for 4-5 hours, pay them double time and the problem is solved
and i see pumpster has somehow managed to incorporate his obsession of putting down america into this thread, which is, as usual, completely irrelevant. im sure markus ruhl, yates, ernie taylor, dennis wolf, alexander federov, all of europe's WSM competitors, etc, had absolutely no desire to train on chirstmas at all. i mean after all, why would anyone whos life revolves around working out actually WANT to train on a holiday for several hours?
edit: i almost completely forgot, of course pumpster wouldnt care if gyms were closed, he trains at home on a fucking BOWFLEX!! hahhhaha, i cant believe i even wasted my time with that post.....bowflex......ar ent you a mod on the training board, how do you respond the new trainers questions, with recommendations to get a bowflex immediately for some balls to the wall, nose bleeding training?

your mom is quite familiar with my packing, as it directly involves the fudge in her anus

Actually, you are right, you should spend it with you're family. And for 10 years, I spend christmas with my brother, working out at Golds, eating out someplace nice a jog ect ect. then when we go married, we were fortunateenought to have wives that love the same sentimental thing such as working out on that day. I'm sorry that you fail to understand that I cannot stand sitting in a crowded movie theater on Xmas, or Xmas eve, and training is something that I enjoy. If you enjoy sitting around drinking beer all day that's fine. I don't have kids, or other relatives. The Gym is somwhat of a chuch to me, and I'm sure to alot of spiritual people here that really and truley feel that you're body IS you're temple as well. So, if you think I'm a walk around bodybuilder that that just is vain, you are only partially right. Traing goes much deeper than that for me.
