Yes it's strange isn't it that some of the best bodybuilders ever didn't follow the 'principles' that everyone pushes. :-\
-

It was his contest prep diet,Off season he is garbage disposal unit eating all the crap he can lay hie eyes on.
Flex Wheeler lacked intensity and cheated many times on his pre contest diet.
But in saying this 99MrO in my eye he was perfection a bit soft in the hamstrings but to this day i am conviced he was the true champion.

Yeah, Mentzer even recommended that you intensify your diet! As an HIT trainer, I must keep my meals as intense as possible. Living in the suburbs, I have to go out and hunt oppossums and raccoons in the early mornings, which is difficult to maintain because I have to sacrifice sleep for the hunt! And due to the high-intensity of the meal, I have to tear the rodents open with my bare hands (which is great forearm/grip training) and cook their carcasses over an open fire. It works though! Just as he promised! It's backed by science!

Ronnie and Jay may be better bodybuilders but all four had excellent conditioning. Ronnie was also known to eat not so clean back in the day and always showed up in great shape.
chad always said the biggest difference between flex and ronnie was he had to right flex tooth and nail to get him to diet while ronnie would eat clean most of the time on his own.
guys like seem to think that gear is all you need and after that it's pretty much meaningless. i've said it a thousand times, i'll say it a thousand times more: everyone at the top is geared to the gills. as such, the difference between them goes back to the same it was if they were all natural: genetics, diet, and training in that order.

you can also conclude that food is food, it's not what you eat but how much.
-
Lee also looks like a fat sack of crap in the off season.
-
I'm frequently featured in great magazines like MD and MuscleMag. And I cheat on my diet quite often. Just this evening I stopped at Wendy's and ordered a 1/2pound Bacon/Cheddar melt. While I did remove the bacon (I am leaning up), the fact that I can eat fast food very often and still get the kinda mag coverage that I do... well... I can understand where lee and flex were coming from.
Damn it feels good to be a gangster.

YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF PUSSIES
-
Uhh...Flex is a horrible example for your ways Bast....if he would have eaten properly, maybe he would have beaten Coleman ;) Other than that, Flex can thank his physique to the drugs, not his eating habits. Hell, on the proper stuff, you can eat McDonalds everyday and be huge and ripped.
And anyone who thinks Coleman eats dirty is mistaken, Coleman can be seen in his 97 video cooking and weighing out his chicken and turkey for the next 3 days.
-
Kamali once said on this site that he "eats every meal at restaurants", whereas Jay says in one of his videos that he never eats out on diets, not one meal.
Monster discipline ::)
Then again, since Cutler only won one olympia, that makes him the most "underachieving bodybuilder".
Right Tamali?

no calves man, you are not too far from the truth.
eat 3,000 calories of protein but only expend 2,000 = fat gain...caloric defecit is the key

there's a thread on mayhem about a guy named joe meeko. Joe was a mr. universe from nabba or wabba...I dont' remember which but anyway he was saying when he stayed with metzer in the early 80's that Mike would get pissed at him cause he could eat so much good food and still be in shape. He said Mike used to eat 1 piece of toast and 1 boiled egg for breakfast.
not what I would call HIE

A strict, ultra-clean bb diet isn't necessary with amount of drugs they take.

Mentzer's philosophy was "a calorie, is a calorie, is a calorie"
Meaning 300 calories from a doughnut is the same as 300 calories from a chicken chicken salad ???
I loved his training philosophy's but his dieting ideas were WAY OFF!

Im using it right now.
Its not nearly as bad as I thought, I run 400mg a day and am losing about 5-7lbs a week, with a semi clean diet.
It just makes you tired and run down feeling, nothing horrible.
Of course I use a shitload of anit-oxidants, and eat lots of fruit.

I thought that Fred Harfield said that. I have an old copy of MM2K where Duchaine talks about meeting with Hatfield when he was getting ready for a big meet and he was eating a Snickers bar. Dan asked him about his writings on nutrition and his supplement line. Hatfield's response..."A calorie is a calorie!"
Probably just coincidence, though.

I knew I posessed a total lack of something, just couldn't remember what it was. Thanks!
My life has purpose now.

Mentzer was against overeating and undereating. 500 calories above maintenance for us BBs, which was a part of a balanced diet 60% carbs/25% protein/15% fats.
Very simple.
