What the f**k's wrong with me? ??? There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my chest when I bench or do anything else but forever now it seems, whenever I try to dip it hurts like shit.
-
don't do them then.

tendons
when you dip you work chest at different angle to presses...
-
So what should I do about it?

like i said, don't do 'em, stick to flat benches and inclines, they'll build all the chest mass you need.

I agree with mahg. Layoff dips. I found that after my tris developed well enough, dips became useless - 20 reps and no real burn. Unless you do weighted, but IMO those are not very healthy.
Alternatively, give a rest to your chest for a week or two...Some micro strains and tears need rest time to recover - keep hittin em with pain and you're looking for bigger problems.

If your not use to doing dip's than the sternum (cartilage between the center of the chest) will experience a greater stretch than ever before. This can cause a feeling if discomfort at the beginning. Once getting adjusted to the chest stretch (after a few workouts) the pain should be gone. You will not get that same style of pain with doing the usual bench or fly exercises. You might with heavy DB's or the bent arm pullover though. Both with a full stretch. If you have that pain, even when including dips in regular workouts, than there may be a muscle or tendon problem.
Just my view but I prefer dips (weighted) as a superior exercise for muscle mass over the BP. It also has a favorable influence on the impressive pec/delt chest tie-in. If you lean forward the chest/delts/triceps are strongly influenced. If staying in as close to a 180 degree position (elbows in and close the sides), the triceps are focused upon much more. In any event the dip can improve the regular benching/incline/overhead pressing power. Good Luck.

maybe you go extremely low and get pain in your shoulders
