Were all aware that some posters on Getbig have reached internet/bodybuilder celebrities status. I'm curious if any of you guys have had people come up to you or recognize you out in public, outside of BB shows.

a few people at my gyms are lurkers or posters. (of course, I'm always putting up 300website signs or talking to PTs about a website, so i'm a little more vocal than others)

all the guys from my high school lurk getbig now. i told one of my friends who is into bodybuilding a little bit..and he got the whoel football team and coaching staff reading this site. all the itme guys and coaches walk up to me and quote something i posted on here.... in fact im pretty sure someone will tell me that they read this pot, now that i mentioned people telling me that they read my posts. :D but other than that, no. no one even knows what bodybuilding is...or that there are competitions, let alone full websites dedicated to it.

There is a guy on here who posts under 'mace_oropeza' once in a while. He's a local guy in Chicagoland and he can testify this happened...
It was in November. November 11th to be exact. I was at a local show in a suburb of Rockford which is 70 miles west of Chicago. 2 things happened that night...
ONE. I was at the show hanging out and these two young guys(18-21yrs old) I overheard saying..."dude that is him...yea...he said he'd be here today...it's him...ask him" then next thing you know I get a...
"Hey man...are you the guy from getbig?"
I say..."which one?"
"BlockHead, right? Arent you BlockHead?"
I laugh and shake their hands.
"DOOOOD, I TOLD you it was him...dude...dude...you're fkn AWESOME! You're hilarious dude...dude...dude is it true that you and Dante got into a fight at the Olympia and that some gang did a drive by on his house and thought it was you? The same night I get a phone call from someone els who POSTS on here all the time who was at 'The Nationals' in Miami calls me late and tells me that a VERY popular and prominent IFBB pro wanted this person to call me DIRECT to tell me that if I dont shut my mouth on here that it's gonna get shut for me. Hahahahahahahaha!
It's a small world and even smaller industry.
I do agree that a few POSTers here made it to quasi-celebrity status in the BB world.

I've heard only one reference to Getbig while in the gym....the majority of people care nothing about Getbig or bb websites in general.....most have no idea it exists and wouldn't care if they were informed that it does exist. BB has a cult following and virtually no one outside Getbig's, Hymen's, MD's and other bb website members know it exists. We're in a bubble and nobody cares how "kickass" we are online.

We arent even a blip on the online radar no matter how great a DA meltdown thread is or how bad 240 owns a Pro BB.
Besides the few major BB forums...the entire cult following and entire industry knows about it and pays attention closely.I aint talking about those who go to the gym...I mean the competitors, those who go to shows, competes in shows, has friends and family in shows, goes out of state to attend shows, follows 'the sport' etc...
Then you have 'PowerRod'. he posts on here all the time and is a bonified wise-guy...but never goes and never has gone...to a local show right in his own backyard. Wierd to me.

There's a group of about 6-8 guys at my gym that will always respond to two names from Getbig.
Mention the name "Vince" and laughs and head shakes are accompanied by comments like "That dudes crazy" and "Goodbum, what's that crazy fool done now?"
Mention the name "Blockhead" and laughs and the "baby boos" and "baby mama drama" come up every time.

I find it odd.
Post on a major BB forum...knows alot about who's who in the industry, follows "the cult" and then...when Jay guest poses and there is a major show 2 miles from where you live...and just dont go? I find it odd.

I don't think it's odd at all. I love to train and I find it entertaining to see how freaky some guys can get; although, I've also never been to a show and I don't really wanna go. I don't buy bb dvds (I own Yates' training on VHS....given to me by a friend several years back), but I don't invest on all that stuff. I'd rather shell out cash for a pro basketball or football game.....not a posedown. I'd rather watch a WSM competition....bb I can read about in mags or online.
Plus, there's just something inherently faggy about shelling out cash to watch oily men pose in thongs (aka "posing trunks") onstage...I don't care about the "grace" in posing (oh brother)....I'd rather see some comparison shots from competitions to see who owned whom. I'd rather watch the bbs arm wrestle or have a squat off than pose and admire their symmetry.

on the flip side i live in Maryland..
there are NO shows in maryland
there ws the bodyrock in VA but then thats cancelled this year..
Yonnie Shamburger does a show here...but its a 'natural' ::) show...i usually show up for the prejudging there but driving to DC at night to bumfuck land aint my cuppa tea...plus..its a 'natty' show..where most competitors are juiced..

It's completely fine to disagree....doesn't offend me in the least. Most often I'll catch an Olympia or Arnold rerun on cable and I'll watch some of that if it comes on. I don't dislike bb LOL....wouldn't be on this site if I did.....I just don't have a desire to go to shows, pay for autographs, buy pics of the bb or buy dvds. I'll watch baseball on tv, but I'm not interested enough to shell out cash to see a pro game in person.....if I"m given tickets I'll go. Football or basketball I'll buy tickets for that.

getbig is a message board about a pretty cult sport in general. at your average gym most of them think the mr universe is still the biggest title in bodybuilding (it has to be, right? it's the fucking universe!), and probably only know of ronnie coleman from his handful of TV appearances.
300 million people in the US, a few million lift. there are just over 15,000 members here according to the site's own page. out of those, i doubt more than a few hundred post with any regularity, and that number goes down when you consider how many gimmick accounts there are. to think that anyone here is known enough to be recognized on the street is pretty retarded, given that the actual pros can walk around all day long without ever getting stopped.

i was gonna go to the arnold and meet up with mcfarland and that "razorsharp" and "tampa" dude from gayhem a couple years ago, but shit also came up. you know how work can get around here.
a buddy of mine wanted to go, cuz he has a hardon for jay cutler (and he's never heard of getbig outside titus or someone bashing it in flex) but we never got around to it.
it's different for you; you compete and are way more "in the scene" than me. i lift for myself, i do my illegals for myself. plus i have a feeling it wouldn't be your average normal gym going crowd. i mean, all i have to do is watch some shit like "a night out on the town with md" or whatever gayness that is, or look at photos from "expos" that make me not want to go. just not my scene.

exactly. the amount of people who know who the PROs are is damn low, what do you actually think are the odds of someone on the boards being recognized? markus ruhl could walk around in most any public place and 99% of them would just go "holy shit that guy is on a fuckton of steroids", with an extremely rare person or two who actually recognized him.
