Title: Bodybuilding at the Special Olympics **Inspirational**
Post by: Ex Coelis on January 02, 2007, 08:12:20 PM
It's good to see people overcome their difficulties and develop their physique to proffessional standards!

You won't see more dedication.  They're always looking for volunteers. Nothing more rewarding. It would be kewl for one of the guys around here to mentor someone and report on their progress.

naw, Frank Roberson is just really animated. He actively serves in the US army and should be respected not only for his achievements as a bodybuilder but also for his dedication to his country. The mentally challenged also deserve our admiration and not our scorn.

But when I saw the pictures, I couldnt help myself  ;D

I never quite get this direct on these boards but I will be clear this time. This subject title by itself "BodyBuilding at the Special Olympics **Inspirational**" is just nothing more than a stupid remark as it relates to this.

For openers it is undeserving because Frank Roberson is a good guy and dedicated bodybuilder. And next, I have been a photographer for Special Olympics for a few years. And yes they are the most dedicated and committed of people who have the most to overcome and the most to complain about but seldom ever do. If there is a group of athletes who could be the role model for sportsmanship it would be the athletes of Special Olympics.

We've had them in Rhode Island last year.  I've never seen more happy faces who, just for that 1 day are Jay, Ronnie, Arnold and Flex rolled into 1.  The feeling from helping out these dudes is beyond rewarding.  A box of protein bars and a few cases of water on a table with a sign reading "Athletes Only".  For one day they are it and prouder athletes you'll never see anywhere.

I'm not sure if you're getting it. The idea behind the subject title is that people would open the thread expecting to see developmentally challenged athletes. But when they get there, they'll see pictures of a pro who only looks like he's developmentally challenged because of the silly faces he's making while he poses. Their expectations have been met, sort of... but only in a trick way! It's an amusing effect. And while they're chuckling at the harmless practical joke that's been played on them, they can have a laugh over the goofy-looking pictures and the comments other visitors have made on them.

If I can clear up any other questions you have about this, just let me know.

I hate when people show up in a parody thread that's purely for entertainment and try to say something serious, it's like wtf dude.
