Title: 315x10 clean
Post by: reppin203 on January 03, 2007, 03:38:40 AM
Thats righht , I benched a massive 3 plates today for 10  clean reps. It's been a goal of mine for a while and It feels pretty nice to get it done. FYI I'm 27yo 6'2" 240lbs. Thing that sucks is I can;t get near 405 for a single. 365 for a few is the heaviest I bench. Impressed? :D

if you put up 315 for 10 easily? how can you not get 405 for one intense single?  ???

Itjust comes down to what he is training for. His training seems to have been based around reps, as opposed to max lifts.

I personally would more than likely have a difficult time doing 10 reps of 315lb, but find it fairly easy to knock out a 405lb max as most of my training has been based on the assistance needed for that max lift.

How many reps were you getting with 315 when you first got 405 up?

Good answer. Most people here "benches 500 for reps"... or not  ::)

9-10 reps. I was also training to hit it at least once too just to say I did. Now I don't bench beyond 350 now for fear of recurring injuries. I figured I would be just as impressed with 350 for 10 or so reps as I would be with doing 405 for 5 or so  ;D. No I don't bench 350 for 10. I do however hit 315 for 13. All my training since I started HIT and higher intensity stuff has made my max lifts come down quite abit but increased my medium weight rep range by 4-5 reps per exercise.  :-\  I guess you just have to pick what your goals really are and just stick to that type of training.  :)

It's true, I know a guy who can do 315 for 10 but can only get 405 for one maybe two.  Personally I can bench 315 for 8 reps and 375 for max.  You would think it would be easier to go up but it's not....All mental I guess.

315 for 10 is good. If you want 405 though train for limit strength. Take one day a week and instead of 10 reps w/315 do 2 then do 1 rep with 365 and so on stick to singles till you get to near 405 and do this for several weeks. Another thing you can do is to take say 350 and press it for one rep, rest one minute then press it for one agin. do this till you can no longer press it. should be close to 6 or 8 reps. the next week see how many times in a row you can press the 350.
This is how I trained to a natural 445 bench at 6'2 225#'s bw. I repped 315 for 12 at 3 sets during this time as well.
Another great workout is close grip benches on an off day. treat it the same way as the bench, go as friggin' heavy as you can every single time once per week.
I was able to rep 365 for a few in the close grip during this time as well.
It all boils down to what type of strength your after.
Pressing 315 for 10 is really good though and can really pack on the mass if you can get up to 3 sets like this.
