ive not watched the 83 O but judging from this clip of bertil and various pics of samir & bertil...
i dont know how bertil could have been beaten...he was thicker than anyone.

Samir was untouchable in 83 its not even close .

matt....u said at the end that it could have gone either way...i could almost agree with u there because samir was slightly tighter than bertil...bertil in 5th place is nuts he should have won it and if not he should have been 2nd only to samir coz samir was dry and tight from the back
clearly between samir and bertil....i just happen to prefer bertil ;)

One reason is because he can't pose to save his life (no pun intended :D) and his legs are weak and he has a narrow structure!

Compare Samir's most muscular in 1983 with Bertil's and tell me it wasn't even close. ;)

His abs looks droopy, much less pleasing to the ey. But he owns him in size. Zane only won second on name.

Lance Dreher (USA) - Lance was a compact and muscular bodybuilder. His biceps development was very impressive Like many others in the show, he had no stand out body parts - but was complete and in good shape. His posing was classical like many others in the show, and he hit poses that are rarely performed the same way these days as well as hit poses not done at all these days. Everything about bodybuilding has changed today.
Matt someone needs to teach you how to evaluate a bodybuilder's physique lol Lance Dreher had NO stand out bodyparts? LOL you ever see this guys back? he was the Yates of the lates 70s early 80s

yep i agree bertil looked fuggin insane compared to the rest of em...slightly watery yes...but freaky thickness
and again i agree with u when u say it was either bertil or samir for the title...wouldnt have bothered me coz bertil was slightly watery and softer than samir in areas

Lance did have an excellent back but I wouldn't say it stood out compared to the competition to the degree of Yates. Lance had a compact package and overall I feel his muscle groups were in good balance with eachother with nothing really dwarfing another.
Why is it that anyone who disagrees with the way you view bodybuilding have to have a lesson in evaluating it?
Matt you claimed the guy had no outstanding bodyparts he did it was his back , if you couldn't catch this or dismissed it then you need help , thats like someone critiquing Dorian and saying he had no outstanding bodyparts you misses something there

For some reason Lance looked to be around 5'6 although supposedly he is 5'8. I think if he is indeed closer to 5'6 that it was his stature or general appearance (shortness of limbs) which made me not notice his back. His lat spread was pretty hard to ignore, however, I guess when you are in a contest with Haney it's hard for your back to stand out.
By the way, I should mention to you that I was banned from ironage.us :-\
lance dreher is one of those guys that time has forgotten in BB, he was pretty damn good but you almost never hear or see anything about him when poeple talk about the past.

he had alot of great bodyparts: calves, arms, back..his chest was a little weak. he did some shows in the late 80's and never placed as he should have..I think he got 6th at the first arnold classic. He was not a top guy at that time but he was one of the better 2nd tier guys around just got no consideration by the mags.

On the "Bertil Fox - Death and the Bodybuilder" documentary, one of the judges said that Bertil thought he could just present the physique and everything that went with it and expect to win - but it wasn't enough. That judge actually directly said that personality was being judged too. ???
