Never did a max deadlift...only used them as a training tool. Never competed in powerlifting, or Olympic lifting, so I never cared how much I could DL or any other single exercise for that matter

wow, a man who tells the truth about his numbers. You fall into like 0.05% of the posters here at getbig.

@Chick: So you did them regularly?? Or do you avoided them most of the time, like the benchpress?? ;) ;D
-
If im not mistaken, Bob has said that back problems have hindered the role of free wieghts in his training regimen. He doesnt do Squats either.

Any good bodybuilder doesn't get caught up in any one excersise, or number.
I can use any type of means to achieve the same result....ultimately, you're looking to break down muscle by lifting weights...I don't care if the weights are freeweight, machine, cement, or two 5 gal. paint buckets with a broomstick through the middle...
Deadlifts , bench press, squats, etc...are all great exercises...if used correctly and smartly. Ironically, it's the pursuit of lifting MORE weight that has resulted in LESS people getting to their goals as a bodybuilder.
TRAIN SMARTER, NOT HARDER.

that's how most build muscles by avoiding squats deadlifts and bench

Great post Bob. And as you always say, it's not how much you can lift..... it's how much it looks like you can lift ;D
-

Monster Daddywaddy ala Mike Katz workout equipment.
-
when will get it through their heads that bodybuilding and powerbuilding are two different things

Ditto, a poster of the above needs to be put up in every gym

Bodybuilding: Breaking down muscle / building it back up through rest and recovery.
The two most basic fundementals which seem to escape most people...all the rest is bullshit.
I've actually gotten into arguments with guys on the internet as they "defend the faith" of the bench press...LOL.
-
Lives have been made broekn on the bench press.

I've seen more careers ruined with that one simple exercise, than all the others combined x 10.
If you are a competing bodybuilder, the LAST thing you should be putting any stock into, is how much you can BP for 1 rep (which aint doing shit for your physique anyway) on a given day.
It's called risk-benefit ratio...easy choice IMO.

yeah, but What about other bodybuilders like Ronnie and Johnnie Jackson? I bet they're getting results from a powerlifting approach.
-
Powerlifting pussy's => that way

Good for them...and others don't. And some guys have never done either...the point is, there are no absolutes in BB.

100 percent correct.
One could build the greatest physique using a Bowflex. it really doesn`t matter as long as it is working.
Free weights and dumbells can be overrated at times.

Same thing can be said with food choices. :)
Calories are absolute though.

im sure they defend it with the usual talk of "as long as you practice good form it's safe!!!" like there's no safer excerises as good or better to pick from...

free weights are dangerous

Very true. Going into the gym with record breaking mind set will not help you become a better bodybuilder.
