Iraq is a frikkin' mess! No end in sight. The top brass over there knows it, us soldiers know it, the USA knows it!
My training partner (we tried) was killed in Ramadi last year from an IED. I always told him he should compete when he got out of this hell hole. While on patrol, his Humvee (which was the second to last vehicle in a row) was destroyed by an IED. 3 other Marines died that day. I have the pix, but out of respect for him and his wife, I can't post them. Very sad to speak to his wife.

We're gonna go visit my mother (her health is not too good right now) next week. I want to be able to see my mother before I leave just in case something happens to her while i'm gone. My mom is funny. She says to me: "I'm not gonna bury one of my kids. so you get your ass back here and keep working on my deck". I'm building a deck for her in her back yard.
It sucks too because i just got my training off the ground after my injury in late 2004. I try to help the guys out in my unit with the weights. but some just want to fuck around too much.

Just curious, was your deceased friends family one of the many that received redeployment papers in the mail? And the government wants us to believe that they actually care about our soldiers, sure.

It doesn't matter if he doesn't like the President or his policy on foreign affairs, or the way in Iraq, the bottom-damn-line is that he signed the contract and knew the risks. If he wasn't willing to go to war he should NOT HAVE JOINED THE MILITARY.
Guys with attitudes like his are part of why the U.S. isn't winning in Iraq. He doesn't believe in the effort...he just wants those checks from the government for nothing...

The most action I've seen has ben with Marin units. Anyway I hope this new plan will involve less convoy BS and maybe we'll stay in the area's we take. The heads up fight with the Mahdi army will suck but we generally kick the shit out of these dirtbags in straight up fights. I always felt safer walking anyway..the Humvess is a huge target. I used to get fired up but a few of the other guys told me not to bother so i don't. There were plenty of guys wishing u the best here who are against the war. We roll though Kabul in what amount to Ford Explorers. We never stop ever..50-60 mph in bumper to bumper traffic..it sucks but we've done ok. We avoid even getting near military convoys......We've got the ASV-150's here and they have done very well. I know they have them in Iraq now as well...I'm not sure if the Marines are going to get them but humvee's suck for what we're doing to em. Be careful man.....
