Title: Couture VS Tim Sylvia at UFC 68 in Ohio..........
Post by: DNewbie on January 10, 2007, 09:22:02 AM
Randy is coming out of retirement to fight Tim Sylvia at UFC 68. Should be an interesting fight. I hope Randy makes the big fat slob tap out.  ;D ;D

He needs to stop. These guys are ruining their legacies.

Noooooooooooo!  I love Captain America like everyone else, but he matches up really poorly with Tim.  See Barnett/Couture and Rodrigues/Couture for what will happen.  Too big, long jabs and a lot of weight to stuff shots.  Tim looked okay off his back against Monson.

sure, but Tim Silvia isn't Josh Barnett(Josh would destroy Tim)..so i think Randy does have a chance(i'll even go 50/50)..on the other hand,Tim is under-rated and Randy has long past his prime(it probably won't end good for Randy)..Nothing would make me happier than Randy winning(convincingly)..

The funny thing about this fight is the fact that Randy is one of the most beloved/respected mma fighter, and Tim Sylvia is hated by just about everyone.  I want nothing more than to see Couture take this, but it's going to be a big ass challenge for him

Tim may look big, plodding and clumsy, but he does have decent footwork for a Frankenstein, and he has POWER.  Two things that spelled doom for Randy at 205 (and a couple of thumbs).

He just needs to bulk over 205, which won't be a problem.

Randy can nget back to benig a HW with no problems IMO, however this fight is very wrong for him. If he can manage to get tim on his back hes got a chance. Tim may have looked good off his back with Monson, but theres no fucking way Monson can punish you on the floor like Randy can

Sylvia by KO im very, very sorry to say  :'(

I heard Frank Mir is helping Randy with his bulk diet...  ;D  ... Im a huge Couture fan as well and hope he can pull it off.  With Crocop now in the UFC Randy is better off in retirement.  I would like to see if him fight again tho... it will sell for sure.

I read this yesterday and I think it's a dumb decision on Randy's part.  IMO he's coming back just for a paycheck.  I'd hate to see him lose again and have people start comparing him to Shamrock!

One thing that I have yet to understand when people fight big Tim is this. Why are people not AGGRESSIVELY attacking his legs. This is fighting101 folks. When your opponent is taller than you, chop his big ass down. Everyone wants to shoot, throw punchs, weenie kicks here and there but nothing devastating. I bet when one person figures this out it'll be over for Tim. All of us here that fight know how bad repeated kicks to one leg or another can bring down your game FAST.  The best example I've seen of this was when Bas fought Ruben Villareal in his last fight I caught. Correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't seen all Tim's fights so if this has been tried, let me know and post a vid if you have it. All Arlovski did was try and trade punches the whole time. Crocop is going to show the UFC clowns how it's done. The fighters now aren't as respectable as the fighters were back then. Brandon Vera is really the only one currently in the UFC that hasn't been recently brought in that could take Silvia easily.

I dont believe its for a paycheck.  When you have been doing anything for that long and you quit your gonna miss it.  He has to sit back and watch these guys do what he used to do and im sure he reflects back on his glory days.  I think he is doing it because its what he loves to do.  Win or lose he is still my favorite fighter of all time which also has to do with his personality. Good luck Randy!

I spoke with Randy at UFC66 and out of curiosity I just asked what weight he was since he looked huge and he said he normally walks around at 225-235 so I don't think it will be a big deal to put on another 15 or so if he wants since his face still looked lean.  I wish I knew this was coming so I could of asked about how much weight he would put on....damn!

Because Tim throws straight punches, with power, and the perfect defense for the leg kick is a straight cross down the middle.  Tim is too tall, and too strong a puncher for people to attempt leg kicks.  Bas is a Thai boxing based fighter, he would be able to leg kick better than a wrestling based fighter.

It does kind of look pretty shitty for Randy. But i will scream till i loose my voice if Cptn. America destroys the hillbilly ogre... I just pray Tim looses and that Randy retires with the belt... But if Randy won by some freak of a chance, Do you think that he would really retire or come back to defend the belt..........

Like the Tito/Chuck fight, I really want the underdog to win.  I just don't see it happening.   :(

It would be awesome if Randy wins. I think he'd stay on to defend the belt. Fighting's in the guy's blood.

According to him interview after this fight he might sign a 2 year 4 fight deal if I'm not mistaken.  We just might be comparing him to Shamrock before to long.

I hope this is wrong he does not need to see CROCOP anywhere but from his seat in the crowd.

Bulldog's got the correct.  Those long arms of Tim's would counter the hell out of almost anybody's kicks.

It's lose/lose for Tim.  Couture is so beloved that if he talks shit on Randy, people would probably throw shit at him.  If he wins, he beat an older and beloved fighter moving back up to a heavier class.  If he loses, he'll have to give up his precious.

Has anyone envisioned Couture/CroCop?  Holy shit...

Liddell picked Couture apart. It would be worse if it was CroCop.
