Title: Nutritional Plan- Critique Away
Post by: MidniteRambo on January 10, 2007, 11:29:30 AM
This is fairly illustrative of what I have been following:

(1) 6 a.m. -Whey Protein blended with 1/2 cup of fiber 1, 3 g fish oil

(2) 9 a.m.- Optimeal meal replacement (11 g of protein, 7g of carbs)

(3) 11 a.m- brewers yeast

(4) 1 p.m.- 1 can of tuna, low fat tortillas, hot sauce

(5) 3 p.m.- 1 can of tuna, low fat tortillas, hot sauce

(6) 6 p.m.- whey protein, brocolli (1/2 bag frozen), 3g fish oil

(7) 8 p.m.- 4 fillets of pollock, brocolli (1/2 bag frozen)

8  10 p.m. - shake made with 1 cup low fat cottage cheese, 2tbs wheat germ, whey protein and splenda, blended with ice

(9) during the night- 30 dessicated liver tabs, aminos

I am also drinking typically 1.75 gallons of water throughout the day; on weekends I also consume scrambled egg whites and salmon as the 11:00 a.m. feeding (at work this is impractical) and I often substitute beef at night for the pollock

Interested in reactions, if any

The only thing I notice is that it seems like your meals get bigger and bigger throughout the day.  For example, your first two meals are absolutely tiny!  A good sized breakfast is the best way to fire up your metabolism.

Also, any reason why your meals 4 & 5 are the only ones with any real carbs (unless you meant low-carb tortillas, not low-fat)?

I agree there! your eating heavier at night...also you should have some red meat in there and i think you should elimate one of the meals that are with a shake early in the day with chicken breast for your protien source.

Good point on the escalation of meal size.  I've struggled with that internally. Two reasons.  First, even if I eat alot in the morning, my appetite is voluminous at night, so starting off lower cal allows me to stay within a targeted range by the end of the night.  Second, my work is busiest in the morning hours, so the liquid meals (which are smaller) are more convenience-drven.  That may be a problem however and I probably need to rethink that.

The tortillas I use are 80cals per, with 2g of fat, 5g of protein, 11g of carb and 8g of fiber.

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

All good advice.  I admit that I may have sacrificed some nutritional sense for convenience.  If I cooked chicken breast in bulk in advance then I probably could choke it down on the morning commute.  Red meat is something I need to substitute more often for the pollock at night.  Thanks.

I'm not a competitor.  But I'm trying to reduce bodyfat while maximizing muscle mass.  The complication is not a bother, I enjoy the details of this hobby, including tracking cal, protein, carbs, fiber on a daily basis, computing macro nutrient %s etc.

I have a wife and kids who attempt to sabotage me all of the time- and they often succeed.

Waitresses give me a confused look, like I'm crazy, whenever I ask if the salmon is farm raised.  I swear, one blonde waitress (wanabe actress), with a confused but genuine look in her blue eyes, said to me, "No, fish are raised in the water!"

I would have slammed her so hard for saying that! blondes like that are smokin!  ;) but seriously, i dont know why its such a shocker when someone askes for 6 egg whites with 3 yolks. Or a plain chicken breast with potatoe with NO BUTTER!
