Title: Welfare needs reform
Post by: Cap on January 19, 2007, 07:02:27 AM
like a cap on how many years you can actually use it.  I am tired of generations of welfare babies sucking my tax dollars straight from my pocket.  It's ridiculous how some people don't want to work.

i always go back to the Bible on this issue;

you don't work, you don't eat.

We can't realistically get rid of it for a long time but it should be more like the FDR work programs like you said Mightymouse.  You need to EARN that check by doing a service.

I think that welfare reform is in effect.  I don't know the specifics, but you get help for less than 5 years.  After that just your children get medicaid and food stamps.

It is an excellent way to begin to break the cycle of dependancy.

Yes, Clinton did begin the from welfare to work program.  Individuals were able to fill city jobs like maintenance for housing projects, public school lunch room workers, etc.

I am related to  people who went from welfare to work and are happy.  It is always a great feeling when you earn your own money.

just a little story on the subject.

years ago when i was a teenager working in a local grocery store as cashier, a lady came into the store, she was a well known customer, and began bragging to all the employees about how much she had paid for her new purse.  she was waiting in my line and everyone she knew that walked by she would go on and on about how much she paid for it.  i can't remember but i think it was like $250.  outrageous.
so after i tallied up her groceries, she pays me with food stamps.

Can't reform it, as it would cause the blacks and hispanics of this nation to whine and play the race card.

Easier said than done. Black people would say it's racist and so would hispanics and they would win.

I'm sure they would.  Some would say it's racist, some woud say it's unfair.

there's nothing you can do that's going ot make everyone happy.

But the facts are, too much money is wasted there...........(not to mentiontoo much money in iraq)

If you have the mental and physical facilites to work, you must work.  There is no free lunch!

the problem with the system is too many people take advantage of it that could work.
