Post by: Cap on January 21, 2007, 12:36:34 PM
Anyone got a specific program on when to progress up in weight and body position?

Have no fear. Deadlift first thing...don't be scared to do higher poundages.

Yea, I just don't want to push the weight too fast and fuck up my back.  I am going to add rack deads and good mornings to protect the lower back.

I go with a 5x5 setup and I only move up weight when I can hit 5 with form I'm satisfied with. Any sloppy form in my back like losing my arch or w/e and I'll stay at that weight for another try.

Do you use the same weight for each set or pyramid up to the final set of the heaviest weight?

Pyramid. My last set isn't always 5, usually varies from 3-5. I try to keep it around 4. Seems to work for me.

how would you f*ck up your back? Stay low, keep your hips back, and drive through the floor. When I say add weight, go up maybe 5 lbs from your previous best.

Take it easy dude.  I tried to jump back into it too quick and my form was that great and I felt it for a while, hard to walk.  I think that was the problem since I pretty much quit lifting for four months and tried to use my ego instead of my brain.

I just did that with squats. Was leaning forward without realizing it coming up on my last set for like 2 straight weeks and I ended up straining my lower back really good. Took the last week off and it's feeling a lot better.

Thank you
i dunno if u've checked out my journal but I've used straight linear progression for my deadlifts always and its worked for me quite well... maybe it has to do with me being a natural deadlifter though. So from workout to workout I add 2.5% more weight than last time, which comes out to abt 10 pounds for me. I do 5 sets total, starting light and ramping up to my working set. For my increments I use anywhere from 10-15% of my working set (usually 15% as it doesnt fatigue me as much)
My last deadlift workout was..
165 x 5
225 x 5
285 x 5
345 x 3
405 x 5

Do you stop every rep like JOJ or bounce like Coleman?

Gotcha.  I use a belt when I would go to a single that's it.  I'm thinking of wearing different shoes jsut for it because my shoes have a bit of a cushion.  Get rid of New balance running shoes and wear Converse All Stars.

Yea, just started those today.  Did 135 with GM and can do 185 easily on Stiff Deads, Hypers just use a 45 but might go heavier.
