I need to learn ASAP for a job, but i dont know anyone who has one. Any suggestions?
-
how old are you? That is sad.

Clutch in, put shifter in gear. Slowly release clutch- too fast you'll stall the car. Get up to speed, push clutch in, pull shifter from one gear to another, let clutch out again-this time it's okay to do it a bit faster. Repeat.
Clutch driving 101.
Now trying double clutching is a whole other game.... :-\
-
you forgot to mention to press the gas at the same time you are releasing the clutch.
also hit the brake at the same time you do this all while shifting gears as fast as possible.
-
Put the gas and clutch pedals all the way to the floor, put the shifter in reverse, and let the clutch pedal out.

Good advice, ...anything else would be like trying to give a haircut over the phone.
It's really easy tho, ...if my sister can learn to drive a stick... anyone can.
-
You need to find somebody who can do it, and let him help your for an hour or two.
It's not hard. After a while you do it without thinking about it.
-
If you have experience driving auto transmission, you can pick it up within a couple of hours, but you wont be that good and you'll look stupid when you stall the engine.
-
If you pop the clutch while activating the flux capacitor and achieving a speed of 88 mph, you'll go back to the future.
Hope this helps.

If you don't know how to drive a stick then you never learned how to drive a car!.. :-\
-
HAHAHAHAHA how sad can one be, I just got my lincense at 21 but even I taught myself to drive stick back when I was only 14 by taking my moms extra car out (a ford focus) before she got home from work. Have also driven a few other stick cars and a stick truck which was fun, If you know how to ride dirt bikes and manual quads then driving stick in a car shouldn't be much of a problem.

So true! And you can't drive a stick if
• you burn through a clutch before 150,000 miles.
• you can't handle the steep hills of San Francisco!
• you stall more than once in six months.

Guess I passed. Do I get brownie points because I also do it in an 18 wheeler, with 27+ tons behind me, and having to double clutch? ::)

Get behind the wheel and put the time in. Try not to have to stop going up a hill in traffic!

My first car was a 1959 MGA. 4 speed with NO -syncro. What fun that was. I was down at the beach on a hill with a hottie and I was so nervous about stalling it. Then a bike with a harly gets right on my tail. Light turned green and I reved it and let the clutch out and still rolled back. It just hit this guys tire and he started screaming at me and I took off. He came alongside of me and spit on me and called me an asshole. I was only 16. I got tired of shifting and only bought autos until the 935. I had an 1967 VW bus too. That was fun since the stick travel was more than 12". I'd like to drive a car with a paddle shifter

Yes very sad ::), not everyone here has as extensive experience as you in riding sticks. Seems like you have had your fair share of them over the years.

Obviously your a gimmick account that got botted off here before and signed up under another name. Any way, i just bought a 95 Ford Probe 5 speed for 900 bucks. Im doing alright, just need to work on 1st gear, reverse, and hills. I needed to learn because im trying to drive at UPS. Gotta make those big bucks, and from the guys tell me, office chicks flirt with you all the time!!!

Have you ever driven a vehicle with a really hard clutch? I've been in cars built for the drag strip, extremely tough clutches. Then when you get into the cab of a 18-wheeler, that clutch is enough to make your leg snap off- now imagine trying to use it a day or two after working legs!
It's nice to drive a clutch and mess around in. But if you do it in a rig all day, sometimes it's nice to just be able to put the shifter in drive and go.

LoL... You can say that again.
