Hollywood throws party for ObamaWASHINGTON (AP) -- Hollywood moguls Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen are throwing a fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign next month.

Some 700 invitations to the $2,300-per-head event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel went out this week, Andy Spahn, political adviser to Katzenberg and Spielberg, said Thursday. Katzenberg, Spielberg and Geffen are the founders of the DreamWorks movie studio.

Katzenberg has endorsed Obama, but Spielberg, a longtime supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, hasn't made up his mind. Geffen also has not publicly endorsed a candidate.

"There are many people in this community who will support multiple candidates, but this certainly is evidence off the serious credibility and strength of Obama's candidacy," said Spahn, rejecting the suggestion the fundraiser was a slight to Clinton.

As president, Bill Clinton had a famously affectionate relationship with Hollywood, and the goodwill -- and deep pockets -- transferred to Sen. Clinton. Celebrities such as Barbra Streisand,
Jennifer Lopez and Chris Rock donated to her Senate races in 2000 and 2006.

Clinton spokesman Phil Singer didn't comment directly on the Obama event.

"The response to Senator Clinton's announcement from throughout the country has been extraordinary," he said by e-mail. "We're confident we're going to raise the resources we need to mount a winning and effective campaign."

If Clinton can keep the nutbags out of her cabinet she won't be so bad. There is no way in hell that Obama could make it nor should he.

Yeah I know, i ment to include a disclaimer. I'm just planning for the worst. I don't think the Repubs will have a shot in 08. I'd love Mccain but i don't think he can get past Iraq. I'm deluding myself into thinking Hil can be the next Thatcher.

Ah so.  All is forgiven.   :)  I think she would be awful.  Too liberal.  Too close to being a socialist.  She would probably campaign for open homosexuality in the military, gay marriage, etc.

I think you make a good point about the Republicans.  I've been watching McCain and he looks really old.  I mean I know he IS old, but he looks old.  I watched an interview with Chris Matthews last week and he sounded good, but tired.  I don't think that will play well.  He may start to look like Wesley Clark.

There isn't really a sexy Republican candidate like Obama (who hasn't said squat yet).

Then you have Newt Gingrich lurking.  Sticking his finger in the water.   :-\

beach bum, it seems like you're getting caught up in those little issues which minimally affect us yet take up so much talking time.  Gay marriage?  Gays in the military?  Are these seriously the issues you believe are the most important?  Because they're the issues you're using to prove Hilary will be a shitty candidate.

I can't fault you, you're just repeating what's on TV. Those heartstring issues designed to get people arguing about hypotheticals instead of looking at what is REALLY happening.

$200 million a day spent in Iraq.  We're pissing off the world.  3 to 5 dead American soldiers every day.  borders wide open.  N Korea firing missiles and blowing up nukes.

Bush caused all of these major problems or did nothing to stop them over the last 6 years.

And you want to discard Hilary because she *might* support gay marriage.

You don't have a f'king clue about what's important in the world, do you?

You're pathetic.  You don't love your country.  You don't care for her future.  You'd rather make fart jokes and giggle at soundbites than look at the large issues which will affect our futures.  you're a shitty american, beach bum.

I saw four of the nominated films:  Mank / Nomadland / Trial of the Chicago Seven / Promising Young Female (outed)

Trial of the Chicago Seven was really good.  Mank was decent in a clever sort of way but it was ok/good.  Promising Young Female was predictable, and Nomadland was a bore.

So, of course Nomadland won.

Under the circumstances, did anyone think it would be a ratings hit? If the nominees hadn't been published in the newspaper, I wouldn't have had any idea who was nominated for what. I recently watched 'The Sound of Metal' and I saw 'Hillbilly Elegy' a while ago. Thought I'd watch 'Nomadland' but I am not going to sign up for Hulu in order to do it.
