Title: Sugar substitue/low cal's , splenda?
Post by: Tier on January 28, 2007, 04:14:14 PM
Im wanting a sugar substitute but i noticed splenda is almost on par with with sugar calorie wise so not sure what the deal is there?

What low cal sweetners do you guys/gals use for oatmeal or cooking in general eg. custard.

Preferebly in 'crystal sugar' form ?

Try to learn eating things without the sweet taste.

Coffee/tea without sugar or alternative.

My last meal of the day is usually low fat cottage cheese with wheat germ.  I noticed if I add splenda, then I'm rarely full afterwards and want to eat more.  However, if I leave it out, I ususally feel full enough.  There is something about stimulating your "sweet tooth" that turns on the hunger mechanisms in your brain.

So splenda is a fine product if you must sweeten, but try to wean yourself off as much as possible.

It's also the same thing that stimulates an insulin response in some people.

Yeah ive been doing the whole spices and cinnamon thing for months and i hit the wall , just using sauce and stuff to help out for a bit and instead of a 2L of ice cream id rather make a fruit salad with custard made with low fat milk and splenda

thats far better than the ice cream  :)

If your are trying to tone up, ditch the sugar, else add some sweet n low to it.  If you are trying to bulk add some dextrose to your diet.  I like to take dextrose about 30 minutes after I eat some protien, to help transport it into my muscles.
