It's theory based on a swiss professor, who has become from somebody who most scientists would laugh about to somebody who they take now extremely serious.
I'll try to get you guys some internet reading material since this is a extremely interesting read.
The Theory goes as follows:
Swarm animals as in Bees, locus, or other insects will be the dominant force on this planet and eventually push us of the food pyramid for good.
Why?
In a nutshell: Because swarm animals have no sense of self preservation and "think" mostly for the "swarm" not for themself, take for instance a swarm of ants trying to cross a small stream, 20.000 or so will wander happily to their death forming a bridge for the rest to cross the river in relative safety.
Take a zebra for the difference, even them life in herds or swarms, but being a mammal, every animal is looking out for their own interest when it comes down to survival.
The other thing is that specific animals who have literally no intelligence in a singular form, form a strange form of intelligence when counted by the Millions.
Experiments and tests have been done on bees, ants and so forth to back this up.
Don't you guys think this is interesting?

The same thing could be said about a nuclear Holocaust, this is one reason I don't want to survive something like a nuclear Holocaust.
The balance would be so fucked and the animals that keep insects in "check" would not exist anymore that the surviving few would simply be eaten alive by some form of insectm, most people don't know that, but if we had no birds and spiders and others we would simply drown by Insects in a matter of years.
Take roaches for example, I have worked in Stuttgart Zoo for a long time (done my apprentientship as a zookeeper there) we had roaches EVERYWERE, it's simply impossible to get rid of them.
And i have done my own personal experience with these wonderfull creatures: You can cut them in half, burn only part of them, put them in a washing machine etc.... they still show you the middle finger and life forever after.
These creatures are tough and they would just laugh at us when we bomb us back into the stoneage, say thank you and have us for desert.

If I survived WW3, I would probably eat a lot of roaches. They're anabolic.

the death and torture of many a cockroaches now is on your head >:(
can ya imagine though if they did grow back..?? man every genetic scientist would be on that...one day humans would be able to then!

Well look at spiders for example (by now you guys should now that I love spiders ;) )
They molt every now and than, since they cannot grow the way we mammals and humans do, they grow inside, and when they get to big they have to lie on the back and their front cracks open and they will slowly move out of their old skin.... It's fascinating to witness that.
Anyways...
When ever they do that there is a good chance they have on of their 6 legs damages, I had one spider that lost a leg due to my clumsiness, it's no problem for Spiders, since the next time they molt another leg will just have grown back... it's mostly not a full leg but a half leg ... a molt later most of them have their full leg back.
Now isn't that fucking awesome???

True, I had Tarantula and Large Scorpions in the Philippines ;) they tasted... different...

they grow inside, and when they get to big they have to lie on the back and their front cracks open and they will slowly move out of their old skin.... It's fascinating to witness that.
Actually we're seeing hilary doing that right now.

Tastes a little like peanuts... but also a little different.
I have seen locals eat Tarantula legs while they held the spider in their hand... and the spider was alive ::) ::) ...poor thing :(

A few years back, I was working on this MOW, and Tom Hanks' brother was talking about this can of chocolate covered grasshoppers he'd picked up on his travels. Of course we didn't believed him, and we thought he was just trying to pull our legs. So the next day, he brought in a can of chocolate covered grasshoppers. We all thought it was a gag can with a fake label. At the end of the day after they called wrap, ...he grabbed a can opener off the craft truck and opened it up for us. Sure enough... chocolate covered grasshoppers. :-X
