Title: Can you respect people that dont workout.
Post by: @Brandon on February 03, 2007, 04:25:49 AM
Can you respect a man without any muscle?

Coworkers, firends, etc.
Do you see them as equals or inferior?

Surely they are not inferior.

There is way more to life than muscle.
There are many different levels in which people could be above me, for example knowledge about a certain topic.

Different thing is when people are FAT.
Fat people are always inferior.

Agree. As to your second point: In a strange!? way, being 'fat' is now looked upon, not as a physical ailment, bur rather as some sort of moral turpitude or failing. Or inferior, as you put it.

Most people don't care for big muscles and don't care to take the steps needed for them. Not a point of no respect, it's basically a non talked about issue outside of the gym unless you're in a sports team or something.

Yes, i see it as failing in life.

Fat people lack discipline, commitment, modesty, they are an insult for your eyes and they stink.

Precisely. In this day and age muscles have so little to do with the status of a man.

i respect people without muscles but if they are fat that is a whole different story...
you can loose your fat if you truly want so being fat is a cause of being lazy or not caring.
being fat sucks especially because normal people have to pay their medical care etc.

I do especially if they succeed at something else. My brother isn't huge but he made partner in his law firm, a huge corporate law firm. There are some sacrifices you have to make in life. You cannot spend your life in a gym. After all muscle is only temporary. How much time should you really devote to it?

Weren't we taught to respect everybody?  How is this a debatable question?  Fat, skinny, lazy, to each his/her own.  Yes, I would like to see people workout for their own well-being, but if they choose not too?  Who am I to judge?  I'm certain that many people don't respect the fact that I am a national level competitor with veins from head to toe.

Inferiors naturally. When you are in better shape then someone you feel high up. Sometimes i laugh at people and flex my muscles infront of them. I also feel superior due to my diet and the fact that i wipe my ass with wet wipes as opposed to toilet paper. I am smart, healthier, better looking, and smarter then most i know.

Speaking as a fat lazy guy, I do accord physically disciplined people a particular respect that I believe they are fully justified in denying to me.

That said: If you think physical discipline is the supreme virtue - let alone the only one! - that's conclusive proof that you're an iron casualty who would be pitiable if you weren't a little scary.

Respect is based on your position in life, what you've accomplished, and your general demeanor, not your physique.

That said, I think that having a lean muscular build earns you a measure of extra respect, over and above the level you would be at based soley on the above mentioned factors, but in no way is it the basis for respecting someone.   An uneducated meathead bouncer is still an uneducated meathead bouncer, and a nobel-prize nominated scientist is still a nobel-prize nominated scientist.

Well, if they're fat, but have five degrees, are a CEO, and pulling 7 figures a year, they're obviously not inferior, they just have different focuses in life. Hell, alot of people look at bodybuilders as inferior because they couldn't do anything else with there life. However, for Joe Shmoe living in his parents basement, 250 blubbery pounds, ripping open his 12th bag of chips today inbetween games of Halo, yes, that sort of person is inferior. Any person who strives for nothing in life, is inferior.
