Title: Nightime question
Post by: littleguns on February 03, 2007, 05:47:41 AM
Will taking a blend of GLutamine and BCAA's (either tabs or in water) be just as effective as taking in a protein shake?

Let´s say you have eaten plenty of good food in the day, in that case it´s ok, but i´d say that before bed, drink a whey shake made in milk+little fiber+little good fat. When/if you wake up in the middle of the night take 1-2 teaspoons of glutamine. First thing in the morning take BCAA´s to empty stomach.

Whey before bed is not the best option IMO.   You want a slower dissolving protein (caseinate-based).  Try Absolute Milk & Egg protein powder, or alternatively low fat cottage cheese.  Throw in some dessicated liver tabs as well (or keep them by the side of your bed with some water).

Whey's function is as a fast absorbing protein is first thing in the morning and pwo.

Yeah, but when you mix it with milk, fiber and maybe some good fats, it releases much slower. Of course if you mix just whey and water it´s in and out in no time, but you can do you´re own "slow releasing" protein, with whey, milk, fiber, fish oil caps. No need to buy casein protein in addition.

cottage cheese is great. If you can't get 1/2 a cup in you then some tuna or chicken with some omega 3,6,9 gels

No carbs, just whats in the protein. I have been using Muscle Milk (1 scoop) and as mentioned GLutamine, Flax seed oil and other nights I replace the Flax with a fiber blend of psylium powder to slow down the absorbtion....

Whey does get digested too fast, as mentiioned, milk/casein is best

what do liver tabs do?

It's a good source of protein and provides B vitamins in a usable form.
