I'm going to California tomorrow for a business trip and will have some free time to check out Gold's in Venice.
Anyone know who trains there????

Charles glass trains a few pros there, maybe Arron Baker is still doing personal training. Most likely see the Barbarian brothers,Gunter,Will Harris..Hint - do not pay to get in, just tell them you moved down there and would like a workout as you want to try the place out before joining. Also hit World gym...

Also go to the Firehouse restaurant to eat, it is only mins away from Golds - a lot of pros and movie stars eat there....

FWIW, You'll see lots of huge dudes and hot chicks at Gold's Venice, but it's not Pro-Central, like it used to be. Saturday in the AM, is best for the hotness and all-around crowd. There should be some solid pros around, getting ready for Ironman & the Arnold. IMO.

After further review, my post is not that negative. And yes, there are reasons to go there; huge dudes, hot girls, some pro's prepping for Ironman/Arnold. I'd still always stop in at Venice and check out the scene. It's just not the "eye of the bodybuilding storm" like it used to be. It's still a killer gym with a shitload of pro-style equipment... it just ain't The Mecca anymore, IMO.
That said, a good session at Gold's Venice and then a walk down to the Firehouse for a steak, is still a cool was to spend a few hours.

I actually just did all of this last week on a business trip. True there were no pros there but I did meet Charles Glass who was super cool. One of the Barbarian bros was leaving as I got there and the guy at the counter said I just missed The Rock by 30 minutes. Anyways, I had a phenomenal workout just being in that atmosphere as there were a lot of roided up dudes and some hot trim. Firehouse was also awesome. And I checked out the Max Muscle store that Dave owns.

I used to :'( workout there on Saturday's and we'd see LOTS o LOTS of people...Gregory Hine (sp? when he was alive), Koby Bryant, Craig and Kelly, of course Charles Glass, Chris Comier, Christine Devine (from a local TV station) and many more (brain fart right now and can't remember names).

not really. apparently the place has calmed down in the last ten years. i've only trained there for four years now.
there are some really hot chicks there on a daily basis. there is this one fitness chick named carla that has the best body of any woman i've ever seen. she is a light-skinned black girl that is just in spectacular shape, but not overly muscled at all.
the barbarian brothers still train there. a while back, david paul was quite reckless with the weights. just throwing them everywhere, but he has calmed down recently for some reason. every once in a while, i see cormier training there- mostly just macking on the chicks though. when he does train hard, he is a beast. i saw him train really heavy with mike morris before morris retired. gunter trains there periodically, but he doesn't go very heavy. one time kamali dropped in with chick. kamali was dressed in one of those unitards. looked like a total goof ball. TP wanders in from time to time. Will Harris is there every day, as is Charles Glass. still see strydom and the rock here and there.
The most annoying thing is the photoshoots. they monopolize a part of the gym when they go on. it is kind of hilarious that they bring in these fake weights.
there is this one weird dude that dances all around the weight rooms and laughs really loud for no apparent reason.
other than that though, there is nothing really interesting to report. as i said, it is fairly calm now.
my overall viewpoint is that competitive bodybuilders are self-obsessed losers. So, I don't bother talking to any of them. It's just entertaining to see a circus of freaks. One more thing to go to the gym for.

I don't know harris. I've never spoken to him. All is know is that he trains all sorts of people. I have never noticed any tendency toward "emo" boys. I think he is straight from what I've witnessed, but what the hell do I know? As I said, I know who he is and recognize him, but I've never spoken with him.

I don't think so. Maybe she doesn't train there any more? Sounds like a mental hospital might be the place to find her?

Consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky. I've trained at Gold's/Venice while on vaction and it's a memory you soon won't forget. 8)

Their food is actually good. At the time I was there, I saw Rico McClinton, but that was it. :-\

not really, besides train heavy. however, i don't think most of what you'd see there would be applicable.
from what i've seen, a lot of the top guys seem lazy. also, they are most likely on so much shit that it would be pointless to even think of emulating them.
I also try not to talk roid heads (even unknown dudes) in there, because obviously their lifestyle is illegal. I have no moral qualms about taking gear, I just don't want to get wrapped up in their drama.

The whole picture seems underwhelming-big muscleheads who look complete unnatural & don't even train hard. Worth seeing once though. The Firehouse's food is decent, not that cheap though.
I'd rather wander over to Venice Beach. 8)

tommywishbone is on the money! only i suggust if you are trining early afternoon, check out the venice sunset also! then hit the firehouse. the sushi is awsome! the gym itself is a shrine of bodybuilding equipment. i met will harris down there. he wasn't very personable, i asked him directions to the firehouse from golds.
charles glass i salways there. venice is a cool place to hang out for the day!

The omellate parlor has better food than the firehouse, and it is down the road. I would hit both. While you are there, head to santa monica and the 3rd street promenade. Moocho Chicks.....

Also be on the lookout for David Paul hogging the lat pulldown.... wearing a belly top! Great gym though..

Hey Keith,when you say light weight,how much light weight for example,I know he is very strong and works out very quickly and does a lot of ab and cardio work now,just wandering what kind of weight you think he's using these days for chest,shoulders,etc...Thanks K.....Do you know what's in that green veggie drink he takes?
