i just watched part of BFTO '06 and as i'm watching it i'm thinking to myself, "are you fuccking kidding me?", look i understand the whole continuous tension and stress on the muscle stuff but come on, Jonnie Jackson is the worst, this guy's reps are so damn short on everything he may as well not even be doing it.
-
Seems to work for him.
-
Levrone uses text book form on his bench presses and incline presses, don't know about the other lifts.
-
there was one guy once...
start watching at the 1min mark... very clean set at a good pace

Probably one thing I will agree with you on.

it's really funny, you should see David Henry's part, this clown does 4 inch barbell curls with 2 plates and some change on each side of the EZ bar, i've never seen anything like it, even Coleman does half reps on all his presses for chest, JOJ claims he can do upright rows with 315 yet he was having a hard time with pulling 135 barely to his lower chest. ::)
-
dorian yates.
some of the best form documented.
-
Watching Nasser train is still the most astonishing thing I have ever seen. That guy didn't do a single thing right in the gym. Even with all the drugs he took, I still can't believe his style of training built that body. Levrone was good, Dexter is OK, I haven't seen the last three Battle For The Olympia vids so I'm not sure how the current lot are training, but your right, 80 % of the pros I've seen over the last 8 years use shithouse form.
SERGIO!!!!

yeah i know you do Bob, your form was excellent on the War for the Worlds especially on db inclines, those db's came down well below pec level, you obviously came up at a time when the training was considered a lot more important then it is today, when i watch some of these guys train i wonder how they can still walk around and move.

They keep tension on the muscle at all times, while squeezing the contraction, works very well.

Bob is one of the Best Pro`s out there. He is not an ego lifter, doesn`t pretend to be one, and realizes that one should do what is most efficient and not always is the most difficult.
A lot of people ruined on silly exercises, trying to prove themselves.
-
I have heard from people that have trained with Phil Heath that he is suprisingly unaware of proper techniques in the gym regarding form and rep execution. So as he gets more experience under his belt...expect to see him get even better that he already is!

Full Reps on the Cybex machines!
Go BoB!!!! You beast you!

Bro...I trained for 10 years before the Cybex brand was even invented!
DOH!!

I love how people try to argue that a Machine isn`t as good as a free weight.
It makes no sense.

Full Reps on the Cybex machines!
Go BoB!!!! You beast you!
Bob pushes a pair of 125 pound db's for full reps like a pair of babies toys on his WFW video, also does 5 plates per side for deep reps on Hammer Strength flat presses.
-
When you are on heavy gear you don't need full reps for muscle growth. Heck, you could grow by simply returning the weights to the racks.
-
Bro...I trained for 10 years before the Cybex brand was even invented!
DOH!!
Actually the legendary cybex classic line came out in 1983 chick...
-
It's all just a means to an end in bodybuilding...free weights, DB's, BB's, machines, rocks tied to a broomstick...
IT DOESN'T MATTER!
-

.
what do you know, I actually agree with you on this.
if a guy gets results with a limited range of motion than what's the problem? I know they're on gear but they know what works for them and that's all that counts. If someone came to you and said that partial reps were proven to build more mass would you still do full reps? Of course not.....maybe, just maybe they know what works for them ;D
It's all just a means to an end in bodybuilding...free weights, DB's, BB's, machines, rocks tied to a broomstick...

exactly. you don't get marked down at a show for using partial reps or cybex machines...do you?
-

Exactly. Centrifugal Machine and Gravity suit would accomplish the same goal as well.

Depends what that end is. If you want to look soft and fool of water keep using machines. If you want to be a champion, use freeweights.

Based on your training video for the masters, you use very good form.
Better than most, Dorian Yates and Cutler (A cut above) used excellent form as well.
JJ and Branch def. have the worst, Tamali and Atwood are the best at practicing quarter reps.
From what I can recall, on Leg Press your range of motion is pretty restricted, but, on hack squats you went all the way down.

The only "absolute" in Bodybuilding...it that it works for "you".
People can talk all day long about what you're "supposed to do", what 'should' work best, etc, etc....at the end of the day, what you present on stage is all that matters...and no one is being judged on what routine or machine they used to prepare.

Ron love once said...."the only rule in bodybuilding is there are no rules"
-
I thought that was fight club?
-
What's PBW's position on this?
-
.......never speak about fight club..."hope this helps".

Exactly. Centrifugal Machine and Gravity suit would accomplish the same goal as well.
please explain this. what, does it spin your around real fast? if so, how come people who go on alot of amusement park rides aren't big then?
-
I thought that was fight club?
But Bob, I thought all great arms were built with BB curls (Larry Scott, who?), Squats (Paul Dillet, who?), etc. My life is shattered. Good posts though. I was indoctrinated into this BS early on.
-

Fortunately, he's kidding. ::)

Since when does locking a joint or overstretching it under load make you bigger or stronger. The guys that lock out all get injured and retire. Locking out is dangerous and totally unnecessary.

Depends on what you are doing. Lee Priest seems to be doing just fine with his lifting.
-

Just curious but how would performing a full rep take the tension OFF the muscle?
-
Squadfather, not every pro can have a physique like you... ::)
Why do you make the comments you do? I have personally seen Johnny Jackson perform a methodical, clean, competition approved deadlift of well over 800 lbs. What he does obvisouly builds strength and size for him. You can bitch about it all you want and have your jealous online tantrums, but the bottom line is that he looks better (if you like HUGE muscles) and is stronger than about 99.9% of the population.
-
I guess if you are a bodybuilder it's ok, but I train to become stronger overall- useful power.
I don't want to get a beer bottle busted over my skull by some guy in a bar because he's not within my 4 inch "power" range needed to do any damage. hahahaha
-
the best form of any pro
-
there was one guy once...

The video doesn't work :'(
-
i still dont get it...what the fuck does FORM have to do with anything?!?!??! this is bodybuilding, not "form" building. if we were judged on how close we come to performing the exercises just like they appear in the textbook, then maybe i would understand all the fuss. the fact is, were not! were judged on the muscles that are produced by the training, textbook or NOT!
-
the best form of any pro
Shawn has great proportions thats for sure.
-
I love how people try to argue that a Machine isn`t as good as a free weight.
It makes no sense.
Well machines do have some disadvantages. For instance, there is inevitably some friction on the movement which makes the concentric portion of the lift harder and the eccentric easier. This is undesirable because you can always handle more weight on the eccentric portion thus you will get less benefit from the negatives because you will be limited by the concentric portion which is made more difficult by the friction. A machine that simulated chains AND bands on the other hand.....NOW THAT WOULD BE INCREDIBLE (this would allow you to be at maximum intensity through the full range of motion). it would also be REVOLUTIONARY, HEROIC, EPIC, and LEGENDARY.
-
I ll vouch for Bob and Milos..they both do exercises properly....
Dorian was the epitome of form
-
please explain this. what, does it spin your around real fast? if so, how come people who go on alot of amusement park rides aren't big then?
The rides aren`t sustained.
-
i gotta say, on some of the training videos/ battle for the olympia vids... the form of some pro's seems 'sloppy' or thrown around.... and a couple others just don't seem to care its like they dont have to try as hard to have crazy psychiques... while others like ronnie train the house down every time.
-

you gotta remember
1) quality of contraction betters itself over time
2) there is such a thing as target ROM VS full ROM
3) the angle and ROM DO change as one gets bigger...
4) getting bigger usually involves more goodies
now i hate using the term "when i ws big" but there ws a time i had some wheels on me..and over time my ROM on leg curls and stiffys got shorter and more concise....i could get a full contraction in my leg hammies with a MUCH sorter ROm than what i had initially started with...
people that have never juiced (for juice DOES increase how much better one can 'feel' a muscle) <so does vanadyl>wont understand what i'm getting at..
-
Dorian Yates' training form in "Blood&Guts" is impeccable. You can trust me on this one, for I have a degree in exercise physiology. Other pros that were very strict trainers include Platz, Labrada, Mentzer and Gaspari. In fact, Gaspari would take strict reps to a ridiculous degree, as he would emphasize both the isometric and eccentric parts of the rep, making each rep last for what appeared to be 10 seconds or so. Was this, perhaps, the reason or his absurd vascularity?

For once you are right. The only pro doing real reps is Ronnie, that is also the one that trains heavier and with more intensity, that is why he could win 8 Sandows in a row, wich in the next 50 years no one will. And, I don't like Ronnie!

Who gives shit look at the results. You can continue to do full range and think your better. >:(
Fuckface.......That's for highjacking my other thread c u n t!

Just adept to a style that works for your own body.
Hope this helps..

hahahahaha, ok "big wiggs" when are we going to see some proof of youre famous 365 for 10 bench press at what appears to be 180 bodyweight?
-
What looks bad are 3" ROMs + minimal effort, going thru the motions.
Combined it looks like a joke, like furiously fast 2" steps on a stairmaster.
-
apparently this technique must work! i guess their trying to build up as much muscle as they can as opposed to impressing the wanna bes standing around watching them.
-

What's unclear is whether guys with good physiques used this same style from the beginning, or only later when they got lazy.

Lee Priest uses very good form, watch his videos (texbook form). Yates and Levrone are other ones that comes to mind

lee priest doesn't use text book form at all. have you actually seen him do bb curls for instance?
he does what works for him, as do the others. there are so many variables with what constitutes 'very good form' it's not even worth getting started on it.
text book form is for text book people.
-
Other pros that were very strict trainers include Platz, Labrada, Mentzer and Gaspari.
Platz has the worst form of any pro or any person I've ever seen in any gym. He would bounce and gyrate to the extreme after he hit failure. He he weren't Platz he would have been thrown out of every gym he trained at.

Have you seen footage of him training? On the UK seminar tour of 1990 tape there is some amazing footage. Has to be seen to be believed. Platz would continue an exercise until the weight simply didn't move at all, even with a spotter assisting.

i've seen footage of him squatting and he uses some of the best form i've ever seen, i've never seen a more natural movement, like a piston moving up and down.

Yeah, the squats are flawless. Perfect Olympic style squats. The leg extensions and dumbell presses are something else though.
I wish someone with the tape I talked about would rip the training segment and post on youtube. Does anyone here have it?
-
maybe you confused the video with Gunthers Rockhard?
-
It's all just a means to an end in bodybuilding...free weights, DB's, BB's, machines, rocks tied to a broomstick...

so if I understand what you're saying is that a shoulder machine is as effective as doing behing the neck press with 315lbs, Bob ???
-

you do full reps while sucking cock homo

neither of which apply to you and your bowflex.

Sums it all up in one sentence... and hilarious as usual. Fatherhood is excellent Chick, I wish you and yours the best.
-
I have a large collection of the top Bodybuilding Iron Pumpers and they are just that. (Pumping Iron) Of them I have seen, Jean-Pierre Fux demonstrated what one could consider to be the most purposeful form. I have watched so many of them that they all seem the same. But again largely they (the top pros) seem to train exactly the same way, they just keep on pumping iron.
-

nasser mixes it up, he does perform some exercises "sloppy" but he does other exercises with more control, so when he leaves the gym he has stimulated the targeted muscle..check nasser on the way 2 and 3.for example: on incline and reg bench presses his form is very good.
-
neither of which apply to you and your bowflex.
Actually dumbass, Bob Chick was talking directly to you about lifting rocks, etc. Went right over your head. Start by lifting the rocks in your head. LOL

These guys are all midgets... they can lock out on bench and the bar only moves about 8 inches with a wide grip.
