Title: Has anybody ever thought of designing thier own machines?
Post by: natural al on February 09, 2007, 06:52:07 AM
I've got access to a pretty high end CAD software package at home on a trial basis for the next month or so.  I've got a couple of ideas for pieces of equipment I might design just for fun.  Anyone else ever really think about designing a piece of equipement?  Any interesting ideas out there?

yes...ive actually been designing a cardio piece (diagram phase only)

just make sure that you at least try to have a patent pending if you decide to submit it to equipment companies. over the years there have been numerous lawsuits because of "stolen" designs. if you can mock up a prototype...thats great, but dont even consider trying to make anything for production.

every year there are one or two booths at the major fitness conventions that have a "new" revolutionary leg extension...or some shit like that. waste of time and $$$$. get an idea, patent it, get a lawyer and submit to major labels. if its a no-go, submit to the smaller guys....

Shadow invented this one.  After showing his friends how good it worked, he became the neighborhood fluffer.

If I design something, I only have some rough ideas, it's gonna take some time.  I have access to patent lawyers if it gets that far.  As far as mocking up a prototype...I dont' know how you would even go about doing that, I gues you could scale it down and an SLA or an SLS part made just for show but that would cost a ton of money.  To actually get something made would really get expensive...who knows, it's really in a very early developmental process right now.

What type of machines would you guys like to see?  Anything specific that you would like to change to a current machine that's out there?  Personally I'm a big fan of the old nautilus stuff.....
