I bet there are kleenex kiosks all over the place.
-
:D
-
I see no pictures of the rooms with the round beds and naked Schwarzenegger pics on the walls with a mirror on the ceiling.
-
Ozzy can't you do better than that. You know what's funny? I bet a lot of you guys would love to get invited to go there. If you are a fan of bodybuilding, you'd have to be.
Carry on with the infantile jokes! LOL!!

yer an idiot.
Dave, you may want to skip posting things like that on this board...I'm sure there are lots of people that find it interesting, but you are also bound to get someone like Ozzy who tries to be funny and fails miserably.

Hahahaha, don't worry I'm just poking a bit of fun.
In all seriousness I wouldn't mind visiting at all.

I guess it's pretty cool the first time you go there...
working there everyday definitely makes it a little less exciting...but it's a pretty good place to work overall.

You are right C but I'm always hoping for the best, I guess I'm an eternal optimist. How about some positive comments guys!
Max.

You guys are taking this shit too seriously.
Personally, I think the Weiders are scumbags.
But I'd still visit and take pics and whatnot.

What's there to see inside, Dave?

Not really taking anything too seriously...but at least try and be original and funny if yer gonna flame Dave's thread
Not like what kids in Jr High would say.

It's just really cool to see all the painting of all the greats of bodybuilding as well as sculptures, magazine covers, etc... The place has a lot of history and if you are a real fan of bodybuilding, it's just really neet to see where everything takes place. Plus you know that tons of celebrities and Pros went through these corridors so it's kind of surreal.
Thanks for the serious question.
Max.
P.S. Ron if you read this, I really think that this is the kind of bull**** that makes this board hard to deal with sometimes, it's ok to have fun and making jokes but this is a cool subject I think and something that many people don't get to see that often, why make it so we don't want to bother to do it again? Don't you agree?

Ozzy, why would you say that? Have you met them in person?

Sounds neat. Where are the offices located? Toronto or CA?
I said they were scumbags because that is my opinion. Last time I checked, I still had the right to voice it.
-
I'd go for sure..cool pics Dave
-
Does everyone who works at FLEX magazine disrespect readers who happen to be in Junior high?
Kinda messed up that you would alienate your reader base like that :-\

Woodland Hills, Ca. Yes you have that right. So I guess you would also be fine with people calling you a scumbag even though they never met you or don't know anything about you then?

Txs Alex.

no probs. Anyone who knows you respects your contributions Dave, so by all means keep on keepin' on ;)

That sounds awesome. I love seeing old pics from the 60's and 70's (the best era, IMO), so walking the halls and seeing old mags and pics would be very cool. Do share pics of the paintings, sculptures, etc if you have any from inside. :)

Yeah you're right, I was insulting Jr High people everywhere, and not just people who make stupid comments on message boards.
I think we were all in Jr High at one time, and we will readily admit that we said stuff like that...thing is, a lot of us grow up after leaving.
I fully understand that a lot of people here don't care for the mags, and that's why we don't post anything about FLEX or M&F on here, you won't find us spamming our pubs on here at all...Dave just thought some people might be interested in seeing a few pics of some pro bodybuilders visiting a pretty well known BB building. Within a page though it gets hijacked by useless comments...certainly people are welcome to their opinions, but a little maturity would be welcomed.

i do care for the mags, and i am in 8th grade.
i will tell my friends that some guy named scribbler doesn't want us reading his magazine.

your posts definitely reflect caring for the mags right?

Cool! I did not know GetBig had such young members. When did you become interested in bodybuilding?
-
I bet there are kleenex kiosks all over the place.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you saying that place is a shrine for perverted gay men......
-
Cool! I did not know GetBig had such young members. When did you become interested in bodybuilding?
i felt like i had to do drugs, i mean all the kids do. and steroids were easier to obtain than the other chemicals, so I ran with it!
-
Ok then, well... good luck with all that. :)
-
So I guess you would also be fine with people calling you a scumbag even though they never met you or don't know anything about you then?
If I ever become a public figure, stuff like that is expected. Your arguement has no weight at all. I've heard all the rumors, heard real life people talk about stuff they went through.... So, my opinion on the Weiders is that they are scumbags. It doesn't reflect on the people who happen to work for them, it's my opinion on Joe and Ben Weider. That's all.
Another thing, this is a good thread. I made two lame jokes and all of a sudden you're calling in Big Ron. You have to understand that this is G&O of GetBig, and you and scribbler, for lack of a better term, totally melted down. Christ, we're all here to have fun, but if you think everyone is gonna say positive things on the internet you need to lay off the crack.
;)
Anyway, how about some other pics of the offices for those of us that can't watch the video?
-
Ozzy - the FBI just gave me your number, tried calling you at midnight, but you didnt answer. So if you hear a knock at the door, don't freak out.
Everything is in the form of entertainment... however, yes, some threads should be kept without the blatant remarks.
Cool pics. And I have been fortunate to have been in the Weider offices a number of times. The first time I visited was on a request from Joe Weider to see a special mold of a bottle for the American Body Building brand a long while ago. We met in the upstairs conference room, which was pretty cool, with past WNI president Richard Bizarro present to. Joe asked us about our opinions on this mold and new product, and was really interested in what we had to say. I was impressed with Joe then because at that time, I thought he wouldn’t speak to regular folks, but I was wrong. That is why my opinion of people is reserved until I meet them, not on what I have heard. I saw Joe again at a special meeting for Powerhouse Gym Santa Monica (it isn’t there anymore), and Joe drove himself to the event (along with his sneakers instead of dress shoes). I always thought that was pretty cool. A few of us got into a discussion of bodybuilding, and I had even more respect for him in how he truly admired the sport.
Anyway, Joe wound up showing us his room, which has huge, in the Northeast corner of the building, and with pride of many of his sculptures around the building, including a real American flag which I think is over 200 years old. Vince Scalisi at the time was in the office right next to Joe (which eventually went to Bill Geiger), and everyone was truly friendly to us. Joes office was to the east of the Conference Room.
Another time, we went to say hello to Eric Weider, whose office was to the west of the conference room. Eric also was very nice, much more businesslike, but still showed interested in what we had to say.
You can see the Weider building from the corner of Erwin and another street (which I forgot right now), but currently, they are building condominiums right across the street. The funny thing is that I used to visit the Wieder offices a lot at one time there because my wife used to work at Applause (toy company) which was on the same street as them.
It is definitely worth visiting them if you get an invitation, but you need to have one to get in. There is a door which you must be buzzed in to get inside, and then get a pass to go past the reception desk.
Two floors to the Weider offices, and they are bigger than you think, especially with the building next door that used to house other various operations of the Weider group. Peter McGough’s offices are upstairs, as well as a number of the editorial stuff.
But in the past few months, some offices have moved around. I have a lot more stories too, but yes, it was an honor to go into the building and check it out. There is even a private underground parking garage there…
There is a lot of history in that building. I was even impressed in the room where hundreds of thousands of pictures were kept, some really old pics and cool magazines - a blast from the past.
-
MadMax, don't believe everything you read, especially on GetBig! ;)

It's gonna be pretty hard to get a hold of me since I'm in Iraq. =/

I far from melted down dude...I just asked that the criticism at least be entertaining.
I realize where we are, and god knows I view this board more as entertainment than anything...which is why we don't post anything about the mags here-I find some of the stuff on these boards pretty funny.
Obviously I have respect for the Weiders and what they have done not just for the company I work for, but for the industry in general, so I'm not crazy about attacks on them personally...but I'm very thickskinned when it comes to people blasting the mags etc (or I would never pay attention to GB)

Well, what can I say...
I'll try harder next time. I wasn't trying to be TOO malicious.
-
I know, I know, I'm a little too sensitive sometimes but I think we can all benefit from seeing threads like this one and they'll be a lot more coming too if people can just appreciate them instead of being negative.
Ron, thanks for that man. Your input is much appreciated.

It's gonna be pretty hard to get a hold of me since I'm in Iraq. =/
Are you serving over there now?
-
Ozzy - you really are in Iraq now!!! Hope all is well. Originally from New York, and now in Iraq via the military. Wow.
-
*Oh say can you see... by the dawns early light...*
-
Well, I'm originally from PA, out here via FT Drum NY.
We just owned someone with a bunch of 105mm howitzer rounds, hahahaha.

Really? WOW! Be careful out there. Do you know that at every Olympia for the past few yeras the Weiders have given away tons of free tickets for the millitary Ozzy?
-

Hope you get home safe man...realizing that someone is over there right now that is on these boards tonight certainly puts everything into perspective. Can't even imagine what that must be like...I wish you all the best...even though you did make fun of our office :D

Out of curiousity...were you in any of the units that were sent a bunch of issues etc of FLEX and M&F?
If not, PM me and I'll see what I can do (I don't have a lot of power over that stuff, but I have a little influence)

IT'S WEIDER SCHRINE...I PERSONALLY PREFER TO FIND OUT WHAT BB IS REALLY ABOUT ...SELFISHNESS...EGOS... RAMPANT MAN WHORING, THE HORMONES....NOT THE SHINY COAT JOE AND BEN FLICKED OVER THIS SPORT....

There are bad sides and good sides. It's all upto you how you look at things.
-
hey Ron and Dave, thanks for the pics and building description. A couple more questions.
1. Is the Weider headquarters its own building or is it just a couple of floors of an office building.
2. i saw one pic with a lot of covers on the wall, is there like a wall with all the past covers
-
Yes he made himself look like he was ronnie's size haha.
-
Weider Offices look nice. I hope Peter McGough continues to advocate for a bodybuilding hall of fame. Nothing too fancy but something small would really be nice.
Dave, getbig is getbig. You really can't compare it to other message boards.
-
Where is the Hall of Fame. Or was that it on the walls.
-

There's not one currently, Peter McGough has worked on getting one built.
-

I think it would be cool to check out the Weider offices but you'd think if you were visiting the man in charge of bodybuilding you'd wear some nice clothes and not some gym t-shirt or a horrid wrinkled dress-shirt that's 2 sizes too big.
It was also weird to see Weider just sitting there while 3 guys posed topless for him. I understand doing it for photoshoots and stuff but if some weird old guy invited me into his office and told me to take my clothes off i'd be gone faster than Titus' muscle without the sauce.
-
Is the Weider headquarters its own building or is it just a couple of floors of an office building.
The Weider headquarters is a stand alone building, two floors, in the heart of a prime area, called Warner Center. It looks pretty cool.
i saw one pic with a lot of covers on the wall, is there like a wall with all the past covers
There are various areas with magazine on the walls, but not sure if there is a place with every single one.
how can you not laugh at that statue that Weider had done of himself being five times the size as he really is,
Because the statue looks good, and it isnt as big as you think. If someone stand by it, it is pretty normal size.
I hope Peter McGough continues to advocate for a bodybuilding hall of fame. Nothing too fancy but something small would really be nice.
Well, there is being one worked out right now, hopefully, right on Venice Beach, where they can set one up. I know a few people on the committee, and I have a copy of the plaque, which will look quite nice if they can get it done. The problem is, I think there are now three various hall of fames for bodybuilders (Muscle Beach, IFBB, AMI-Weider's, maybe more), so who will decide who will get it if this one is actually built in Venice.
It was also weird to see Weider just sitting there while 3 guys posed topless for him. I understand doing it for photoshoots and stuff but if some weird old guy invited me into his office and told me to take my clothes off i'd be gone faster than Titus' muscle without the sauce.
Well - at my offices, sometimes you have guys a few weeks before the show wanting to show their physiqe and get a real criticism to see what they need to shore up in the last week or so. It isnt anything different than showing your physique off a day before the show, etc. This is bodybuilding, and one of the ideas is when you get on stage, you show your physique.

True. I guess Weider just creeps me out a bit. ;D

To see the actual fake bust of Joe Weider's head on Robbie Robinson's torso...
To see the filing cabinets holding the actual slave-labor contracts for IFBB pros...
To see the next article about Ben Weider's honorary awards being written...
To hear the advertising pages for goat whey protein being sold at a bulk discount for the next "Biggest Issue Ever"...
To see the original photograph of Joe Weider stroking Shawn Ray's face...
-

really?...it must have been a while ago...before my time

What's the big deal at this point about the "Weider offices"? True, at one time long ago it was heart of an empire that WAS bodybuilding, including publishing, supplements, exercise equipment, and the IFBB itself, but that time is long past. Now it is a mere division office of a Florida-based tabloid publisher that's about to go belly-up.

It is cool to check out. The artwork, scupltures and other forms of art make it more unique. It is nice to see various inputs of the industry, from magazines to manufacturers to bodybuilding.
-
And just what are the 'good sides'?
People living their dreams. Magazine and supplement endorsements. Prize money (which can be improved). Your name getting into mainstream media. A stepping stone for future endevours like movies and modelling. The list goes on.
-
I would say that 99% of the people who are into the sport of bodybuilding, if asked, if they would like to check out the Weider Publishing Empire, would say yes. I know that it was an honor to check out the place the first time I went to the building.
-
Not bad! Check it out and let me know what you think.

THIS BUST OF WEIDER IS ACTUALLY A BUST OF ROBBIE ROBINSON WITH WEIDERS HEAD ATTACHED...JUST SHOWS THE HONESTY OF THE SPORT.
-
The only thing that strikes me about those pictures is how badly dressed those 3 are, i mean silvio sangria looks absolutely ridiculous, his clothes are about 10 sizes too big for even him and he didnt even bother to iron them.
How strange :D
