Let's face it despite the hype ("sparkling oratory") he's not compelling. Also obvious that he doesn't realize it.

What do you mean by "not compelling"?  If you're talking about charisma, he's probably more charismatic than any other candidate in the race at this point.  If you're talking about substance, then I think you have a good point.
