You did not ask Arnold any really controversial questions, and you did not push him at all, while you really pushed Lou.
Why is this?

Deliberately piss off the governor of the state you live in and then get back to us.
-
1. While I know the Governor, I've never been friends on a personal level....I was with Lou.
2. He's the Governor
3. His status as an Icon of the sport is unparalleled by anyone, including Lou...
4. As the Governor, he's somewhat limited in what he's willing (or able) to answer...to ask specific questions that you know he couldn't answer would be a waste of time and may have been taken as being rude.
5. Keeping a modicum of journalistic integrity is what separates us from the pack, and insures our continued success.
-
Chick, just wondering. Did you have to submit to him (or his aide) a list of the questions you were going to ask, for his review?
-
due to the fact Arnold doesnt need to be bothered with bodybuilding...or bodybuilding fans anymore...he could just end the interview if he didnt like the questions and he'd wouldnt care less about what any fans think.
Lou needs bodybuilding (in his mind), he doesnt really have a life outside the industry...so its easier to ask a guy like Lou tougher questions.

Exactly, not showing respect would be the dumbest thing you could ever do.
Chick is awesome, you did great.

Good points.
At the same time, you could have at least asked a few more provocative questions.
-
when it comes to arnold u just have to be grateful that he took time out for the interview....
he is on that sort of level (probably the most famous person in the world)....and he agrees to do the interview...u have to respect that and there is an underlieing understanding of not to ask any smart ass questions (even though the fans would love to hear it)
ps- great interview bob....it was amazing after all these years to finally hear those questions answered.
ur show is one of the best things to happen in bodybuilding.

Excellent post Chick! But come on, it was a bit cringeworthy when Arnold claimed bodybuilding is a great sport because it keeps people off drugs ::)
Oh, and the nineties was the best era of bodybuilding. Your anti Dorian crusade is getting a little tiresome. Grow up.

Yeah it's not like FOX news isn't totally biased, journalistic garbage or anything. Oh, wait a minute...
MaxC jumps in and improves this thread. :)

I believe he was talking about street drugs, which ruin (and take) lives.....
I'm not anti-Dorian, just think it's debatable that Nasser wasn't better that day....

Excellent question. He used to famous for asking for such questions before Oprah, etc. and not deviating from the script. Why he always came off smoothly. I think in a real free-for-all, he'd be as lost as Bush. :-\

That's a nice way of saying "those guidos over at 'MD Radio' are a real circus sideshow... the very definition of 'unprofessional' ".
;D

We furnished a list of questions to him in advance as a courtesy...

I thought you did an awesome job Bob. I agree that Arnold would have or could have ended the interview very abruptly had he been asked the wrong question.
I’m just wondering if you got any chance at all to talk to him off the air.
-

In the past, you've boasted when a guest made a point of saying that no questions were off limits. I would assume that Arnold didn't make the same offer. :)
-
I'm sure there are many questions that would be "off limits" for the Governor to be asked....we are smart enough to know what those questions would be, and didn't waste our time (or his) asking which we knew he wouldn't answer anyway....
MAX REP-
No, I didn't get a chance to shoot the breze this time around, but I have had the good fortune of talking with him on several occasions....
Since we (BB.com) will be web casting th entire Arnold weekend next month...I assume we'll get a chance to interview him backstage for all our fans around the world....
-
I disagree with Chic on many topics and I am also not a big fan of Arnold, but I think Chic did a great job. All I have to say is thank you.
-
So instead, we just get the same old interview he always gives........
We could have read Flex for that shit..... ::)
If you want to be a "journalist", sometimes you have to ask tough questions......

Well...this time you got to HEAR the Governor, not read his comments. The way HE expressed himself, the passion in which he still talks about the old days, and the spontenaiety of his answers....
Sometimes you do have to ask tough questions...this time wasn't one of them.

A wise assessment Bob. That's the reason we have TWO ears and ONE mouth. It means we need to listen twice as much as we talk. In this case, it was wise to LISTEN. Agreed the passion in his voice was really awesome to hear (LISTEN to).
The man has the wisdom of experience and he always understood the concept that what makes bodybuilding is the ability to draw press (public relations) to the personalities. He always took advantage of that and he was encouraging others (such as Jay) to do the same.
By the way, I like the concept of Bobservations!
-
I THINK he said the MR O should be more outgoing and be able to connect with the ppl?
funny thing is b4 jay became champ i said that to him and he took offence to that now arnold said it lets see what he has to say now, and lets be honest jay is a good BB but fuck is he ever boring.
We need someone with a attitude like Arnold's or Valentino's as much as u hate him he is Entertaining ;) ;) ;) ;)
