You won't get better advice than that.

Other than that, get a pre-nup. It's an insurance policy that protects your kid.

Long story (and if I told you even a few basic details, you'd *definitely* tell me not to get married!), but there's a child in the equation and I do love her mother.  Among other things, I believe strongly in the advantages that a child gets from a 2-parent home, and it also gives me greater control over what would've been paid out in child support....thus enabling me to preserve more for her future.

California is one of those states that requires both sides to be represented by an attorney, so I've already agreed to pay for that.

Tough one.

IMHO, unless you're worth serious recorded bank, don't get one.

Just let her know you're the grittiest mofo she'll ever meet and that the courts are the least of her worries should she ever try leaving Tre City.

*you like that idea?  I'm too much of a diaper changing wussy to do it myself, but I think you could pull it off!

That rivals the 9/11 analysis. ::)

After observing the satistics about marriage it's safe to say that it's lost any meaning it once had.

You're got some who are happily married, then another group like this.

I think it may be true that some pre-marriage councelling could help, even though a the time it probably seems silly and unnecessary. Supposedly the questions involving everyday marriage scenarios and problem-resolution help clarify whether the two people are compatible, are really on the same page and should proceed, or should look elsewhere. A reality check in other words, before it's too late. That type of councelling supposedly lowers the divorce rate substantially, basically by disuading a large number of couples from ever marrying.

One of the lucky ones. Partially luck i think, finding the right match early, or something beyond luck for those with the patience to continue looking until the right combo clicks.
