Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm still new to these forums. Anyway I'm thinking about building a gym in my basement and cancelling my gym membership. I need something that can hold an olympic bar for shrugs, rows etc. At the gym they have a platform that you step onto and it has a place for the bar along with those big adjustable bars on the side for safety like in power racks. Anyone familiar with what I'm talking about or have other suggestions? I've searched but have no idea what it's called. Thanks.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. It's a Cybex training platform, I searched and can't find any places that sell them, anyone know of one or a similar product? (http://ecybex.com/Products/Data/MainImages/5480.jpg)

What about a power rack instead, as you've mentioned..

I've considered it but they are pretty big. But I may go that way if the price difference isn't that great.

Think I found what I was looking for, thanks Pumpster.

For shrugs and rows just pick the bar up off the floor. I train at home for everything except legs and I can do any compound exercise. And thats just with a bench, lat station, preacher pad. The only thing I think I would benefit from is a Smith Machine / Power Rack for squatting and military pressing.

Well let's face it, being able to do squats, benches, shoulder presses etc. safely at home without a spotter's a pretty compelling reason to have a rack. The only reason not to have one IMO is if you have good self-spotting machines instead for some of the same exercises.

Yeah, I have to get my gf to spot me when I'm benching heavy! The shoulder pressing is a bit of a pain cos I do them standing and have to clean the bar to chest first which wastes precious energy. With squatting I go to the gym.
