So I had lunch with one of my former bosses today. He's 80, a lifelong Republican, and white. We talked about Obama and he is thoroughly impressed with the guy. I think part of his opinion is colored by the fact he and Obama went to the same high school in Hawaii, but I respect this man's opinion a lot. He believes Obama is the most exciting candidate in the race and possess the qualities necessary to be president. I'm not sure I agree, but if Obama is pulling old white male Republicans he could do some damage in the general election. I still don't think he gets past Hillary, but if he does it looks like (at this early stage) he has a shot to make this an interesting race.

I definitely prefer Obama to Hillary.

He's a better candidate, but Democrats seem intent on putting duds at the top of their ticket. And as the last (and many other elections) proved, people vote the top of the ticket and a strong VP candidate will not save you (see Kerry and Edwards).

Will we see a more youthful Republican candidate?

how come no one has mentioned edwards??

A little of both. You know how Democrats looooooooove their women and minorities, but I also think Edwads was tarnished by being part of the losing ticket last time around. I think Obama has a better shot than Edwards would.

He's tarnished from first losing to Kerry (losing to Mr Loser, how about that), then being his vice-president candidate.
Had he not done these two, I would've favored Edwards over both Clinton and Obama probably.

I haven't heard of any.

I agree. You'd think Democrats would put their support behind Edwards instead of Hillary.
