No it wouldn't have Burt was perfect for that.  That movie inspired me and my friend to buy a Trans Am that year.  In fact we bought one of the replica cars.  Cost $12,000 in 1977.  It was identical to the car used in the movie.  Back then the TA was very nice and very fast.  Looked awesome going down the street.  I blew it up in Louisiana but it completely went dead on the Texas/Louisiana border.

Ours was automatic.  My friend and myself went and saw the movie and liked the car so bad went out and bought one.  He made the down payment and insurance and I made the monthly payments.  We both were going to St. Petersburg to play Winterball.  He flew back to LA and I drove.

It threw a wrist pin just outside of Lake Charles about 40 miles.  I drove to Lake Charles with the hood up and that big gold bird flying in idle the whole way.  It was idling at about 15 mph.  I pulled into Siebarth Dodge, Chevy, Ford, Mercedes, Pontiac and whatever other cars they sold.  I had the whole place over to the car to see what happened.  It had just over 12,000 miles on it.  Just over the warranty.  They couldn't fix it so I tried to make it as far as I could go.  It blew up on a small bridge near the Texas/Louisiana border.  It was around midnight or so can't remember.  I got out pissed and just fucking around started throwing shit in the river below.  A few hours later a truck came by and took me to Orange, Tx.  They got a tow truck and towed it to a station.  I took a bus from Orange to Houston and flew home.  It was a nightmare.  My friend dad ended up getting the car and fixing it and sold it.  But it was allot fo fun to drive, especially back then.

Reynolds was perfect for the part...I wasn't a Reynolds fan back then but now that i can look back at the work he did and thought he was one of a kind...A little to macho for my taste but it works for him...And he is pretty funny and can make fun of himself
