Title: front shoulder raise

When i do a front shouldr raise i pull my shoulder back and then do it(chest sticks out a little). i feel it's the right way but is it?

First of all, do what's comfortable but yes having the shoulders back and chest out (scapular retraction) on seated presses, bench press, lat pulldowns and chins should help to better isolate the area AND reduce shoulder joint injury potential.

On presses you can always brace your back to help with support.

but he's talking a front shoulder raise? and you should have a straight back for that, or any over head lift, or any lift, where there is down ward pressure on the spine. In the long run it wont total your lower back.


Good point but with chest out and shoulders back the back will be straight and less susceptible to stress plus you then can reinforce the back by leaning back on a support, as i mentioned.

if you're pushing your chest out you're switching some more of the work to the chest, not wrong, not horrible but you are taking work away from the front delt

talking about front raise here, I DOUBT you'll ever do enough weight to hurt your spine
