Hedge,

Honestly I have never worn a single ply in a contest. Well I did way way back in the day (1995) so I guess it would be like 315 :) hahahaha!!!

Yeah I'm down 80 pounds now. I was 342 officially for the Arnold but I was dressed and ate a huge breakfast before weigh ins. I'm sitting around 340 right now. I will come into Kenny Patterson's meet in July as a 308er started the 2nd phase of my diet today.

Kind of funny I cut off 80 pounds and add 25 to my bench. Surprised the shit outta Louie at Westside.

I commend you on the weight loss.

A friend of mine who's been an elite PL SHW had to lose weight, or he knew he would be dead in 10-20 years, he was starting to have some serious health issues from what I understand.

He was well above 350 lbs, and fcuking obese. No other word for it, really.

Great strength, he was even strong RAW, but he was obese.

He's lost 70 lbs thus far, and will get probably end up below 220 lbs.

Whatever happens with your strength and results, you did the right thing.

Living is everything after all.

Good Job Wolfy!

Just out of curiosity, what shirt were you wearing at the Arnold?  I'm still trying to find my groove with bench shirts.

Had on a size 57 Rage X double ply. Standard collar but lowered 1 and half inch, grid stitched, open back, and 3 inches cut off the overall arm length. That is it nothing to fancy or jacked. What shirt you working in?

Thanks Wolfy.

Most of what I've done has been raw (including competitions).  I just missed locking 485 not too long ago raw (at a BW of 292 lbs).  I've got a single layer Inzer Denim with a partially open back.   I'm not sure what it is, but I'm missing something with that shirt. The most I've gotten out of it was about 50 lbs (the first time I benched 455) and I've surpassed that raw a year and a half later.

I've used standard Blast Shirts and HPHD Blast shirts in the past, but in all honesty, I didn't like them.  I've shifted to open/velcro backs because I think I'm going to dislocate a shoulder one of these days getting into one of those shirts.

I'm debating getting a Rage X (open back + velcro to meet APF/SPF rules) to try it out.  I'm a natural "belly bencher" with a ROM right across my Xyphoid/lower rib cage.

with the numbers bordering stupidity, how much more do you feel you have in you? Would a 900+ be too far do you think or are you confident youll break it sooner rather than later?

I'm pretty sure I could of done 900 plus that day. I hit it off a 2 board about 3 weeks out and it was easy and the shirt I had on was tight enuf that it would of given me a good pop if hit everything perfectly. 900 will fall SOON, but for me going to a contest is about having 2 goals first one being get in a good opener and second one is hit a Personal Record. After that we shoot for the stars. At the Arnold I missed my 2nd attempt at 837 which would of been a PR for me. My coach told me to take it again, I told him I was good for alot more and had the confidence I could do it. It was pretty ballsy move going up with only my opener of 783 but hey sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Luckily enuf it worked in my favor and got me 2nd place.
