Title: Would signing Triple H as the face of bodybuilding grow the sport?
Post by: 240 is Back on March 12, 2007, 06:08:24 PM
Suppose an MD or Weider signed HHH tomorrow.

Would the growth of the sport, and resulting ticket and mag sales from his involvement, be worth the cost?

With bodybuilding media (video and radio) growing at the explosive rate it is, wouldn't a personality like that (look, acting, profile, and speaking style) be a good investment?

Only if he got back into respectable shape, i.e. leaner with visible abs.

Certainly yes.

A pro wrestler?  :-\

I don't think bodybuilding really needs any more association with "fake" than it does already.  :)

John Cena is already involved. BB can only grow so much because the first thing that will be questioned about is steroids.

Everyone knows that many baseball players use.  Sport is still huge.  IMO this period of multimedia (webcasts, radio show, and message board explosion), they need a single big face to represent- one who already has global appeal.  HHH could be the guy.

Wouldn't do a thing.  HHH is not associated with BB.  His fans don't follow him and his career because of BB.  John Cena may go to some of the shows but his fans are there to see him not to watch a BB show.  BB is just not an occupation that many inspire to be.  Sure there are some but nothing compared to other industries.

bodybuilding.com and other companies should look for athletes that have mainstream appeal.

Someone like 400 meter runner Jeremy Wariner, someone like pole vaulter Toby Stevenson, et al.

They both have great physiques that are appreciated by a big audience.

They represent a fit lifestyle much more than what Hunter Hearst Helmsley will ever do.

HHH loves the sport of BB...However he has nothing to gain by putting his face on it...Also consider the drug usage with it...Yes i understand alot of the same drugs are used in wrestling but wrestling is semi protected for its more entertainment then competitive...

The only reason i could see HHH getting more involved in the "sport" would be because he is starting a suppliment line or something along those lines...

I think he's in the BSN adverts with Ronnie.

I think if you were gonna sign him up as the face of bodybuilding you'd have to make him get back into shape first.  He went through a period of being big and ripped, but I think he calmed down on the juice a bit and he now seems to carry a lot more fat than he used to.  Not a good advert for BB'ing.
