Title: Anybody thing the Olympia is fixed?
Post by: nastyn on March 13, 2007, 03:58:48 AM
I was wondering if anybody thought that the judges might have a preconcieved notion of who they might award points to even before the pre-judging...also...how much does Weider's opinion of the bodybuilders play into tallying up scores and giving placings?

I have been satisfied with 90% of the result of top 6 of O. So I think No politics for top 6.
But I always dont agree with out side of top 6.I dont know if there is politics or no though...

I don't think being on anyone's good (weiders or judges) side can hurt you but can help make a tough decision easier...

i think that the main problem isn't in the top 3, but from the 3rd to the last one... and also how some bbers manage to compete in the olympia is very weird!

I wouldn't say that it is fixed but with anything that is subjective (bodybuilding judging is subjective just like a beauty paegant) it seems to favor those that are part of the system and has paid their dues.

here is an example:

lets say that an unknown qualified for the O and some how found a magic drug that gave him the best  build. It is my contention that he wouldn't be voted 1st. That someone who has paid their dues would get the award.

You mean like in 98 when Ronnie Coleman came from nowhere to win over Flex Wheeler who was the favorite and had "paid his dues"?

Had Flex's *alleged* sunthol use ruined it for him?  I remember hearing of the mantra that no man with oil will ever win an O.

No, more like the 2006 "Bobybuilding.com Master's O".  ;D

Considering that BB.com wasn't the title sponsor, and there was no Master's O in 2006...that's funny.

Keep those zingers coming..!

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.. ...are you kidding?

The Olympia is a pre-determined show. Recent examples: Ronnie and Dorian, neither should have won that many consecutive Olympias, IMO, the top 2-3 are pre-determined!

Everyone knows exactly what I'm talking about.  So do you.  Hope this helps.

Of course it's predetermined. In 41 years there's only been 11 winners. Most of whom retired before being dethroned. It's not a competition, it's just a cleverly disguised advertisement. Ask 20 people off the street to judge and you get twenty different winners. Ask them to judge a gymnastics comp or boxing match and they usually agree on a winner. It's called "Joe Weider's Mr. Olympia" for a reason.

Please...If it was pre-determined....there would have been many MORE different winners over the years...decisions that would have made much more sense than having the same guy win over and over.

Jay beating Ronnie in '01 would have been a marketing bonanza for the B industry, and certainly Jay could have won without too much argument.....

Gunter beats Ronnie in '02, and everyone screams FIX, and that Gunter is picked to win the Olympia, etc...and guess what....wrong again.

Judging decisions can always be second guessed.... the idea of fixing shows is laughable.

Flex was oozing the stuff in 99, not 98. They expected a tight  Flex, but Ronnie was tighter.

It boils down to who sells the most. Shawn should have beat Dorian a few times, Jay should have beat Ronnie long before this last time, it's all about the rivalry and drama and the judges inability to judge...yes, it's pre-determined, any bets on who will win the next O? My money is on Ronnie, not because he's better but because of the drama!

LOL....who sells the most what?

Before last years O...everyone was screaming that it was Ronnie's, that they were going to give him #9 to beat Haneys record, BSN-big $$ sponsor, etc, etc......WHAT HAPPENED?

As usual, Mr. I....you're wrong.

Again, it's the drama, leave'em coming back for more until Ronnie retires!

And again...it's the drama that would have made more sense to have had Shawn win, Kevin, Jay '01, etc, etc....you don't make any sense.
