Title: post work-out
Post by: Arnold Palmer on March 13, 2007, 02:26:54 PM
How long should I wait after my protien shake to eat my next meal?

Also, should a simple sugar be consumed along with the potien shake, or a little bit after to time up the insulin spike so that the protien is abosrbed at same time?

What type of sugar should i use for this also? Im a newb when it comes to all the dextrose maltodexrose and all of that.

You're making this far more complicated than necessary. If you're using an MRP or weight gainer between your other meals, you can use the same product for your post-workout shake.

When I used weight gainers, I took three servings of them: Two between meals and the third about 30 minutes after training.

When I switched to MRPs (Myoplex, MET-Rx, Meso-Tech, etc.), the same principles applied. Even with straight protein powders, that pattern never changed (although, given the creatine supplement I use, simple carbs aren't a problem).

Also, fret ye not over whether thine protein powder be pure whey or a protein blend. That's too far into the weeds. Shake it up and drink 'er down, and you're in business.

Wait a good hour (+-15 minutes, just hear what your stocmach says to you  ;) ) and then have a GOOD meal. Complex carbs (brown rice), lean protein.

Type of sugar to go with PWO shake doesn't matter as long it is NOT fructose.  ;D

Donkey Kong is right.

Post workout: lots of fast carbs, and some protein (15-25 grams, I tend to go for 15 grams).

Carb choice: Either maltodextrin or dextrose. Or a mix of the two, 50/50.

Cons in using the maltodextrin is basically in the lack of taste and how it so easily jams up the shake ;D

Dextrose is sweeter and dissolves very easy.

what is you sip on a dextrose bcaa or gatorade mix during your routine and then had a good whole food meal within an hour.....how would that work?

You'd skip a good deal of protein oxidation and would not raise muscle amino acid levels as high as if you had that PWO whey shake.

The gatorade/bcaa mix is great though.

Right after my workout I go back to the locker room and have 2 scoops ON whey (~45-50g) with 80g of dextrose.

Then I drive home and eat 1 can of tuna with 1 cup of oatmeal.

Why do you hate it?

I love the dex as your body is craving for something sweet after you just went all out in the gym....

Then use maltodextrin ::)
Nevermind, do whatever you want and continue with mediocre to zero results as usual.

I'm convinced, postworkout isnt as important as pre and the rest of your meals....so I have only been hacving whey......dex and malt give me the shakes,,,,,much rather have a whole food source with solid carbs and protein.....thinking of a hey shake, some tuna, some whole wheat toast and a few bananas as soon as I get out of the gym....sound good???
