My family has always had good genes so the answer is no.
Alexander the Great was 5' 2'', and Napoleon was considered average height in his time. So it's not a matter of good genetics.

The vikings, as in badass pirating vikings, their average height was 5' 7'', and by definition of average, that means half of them were shorter than that. People have gotten a LOT taller in the last century.

Many scientists attribute it to yams and other sources of estrogen analogs. It's similar to why they think male sperm counts have plummeted - microwaving food in plastic containers. And BBs sure as hell use them a lot...makes you think.
Also, check out Gerard Butler at 58 seconds in. He's muscular sure, but notice how the cuts have been painted onto him, like Brad Pitt in Fight Club? Probably for Troy too...for which he used a leg double, incidentally.

Out of a group of numbers, the average is going to be the middle, making half of the numbers in the group less than the average. So yes, yes it does.

With the logic that people have added 12 inches of height over the last 2000 years that would mean a gain of 6 inches of height each 1000 years. With that logic people were only 1 inch tall 12,000 years ago. People got taller from the WWII generation to the baby boomers because of a dramatic change in diet. But that hasn't been happening generation to generation to any noticeable degree. As humans evolved they got taller but that was over tens of thousands of generations.
One of the 4000 year old bog people from England was 6' 6" tall.
The people who originally measured the skeletons and came up with the short heights weren't accurately accounting for the cartilage that is between the vertabrate and joints. That makes up a substantial amount of human height.
The Dutch are currently the tallest people in the world with an average height of 6' 1''. So the people of the country of Holland are taller than the people of any other country in Europe, Africa......

An average does no way suggest that half of sample will be over the average or half under the average. You should go on google and do a search for the difference between the average (mean) and the median. This is basic statistics and you might learn something.

Actually, there is an explanation for it. The cause is the modern day diet, which is very rich in saturated fats. This kind of fat speeds up sexual maturation and the ageing process. The more saturated fat you eat, the more testosterone you get - and estradiol and progesterone in the case of women. While this might be good for gaining muscle, it's bad for your health and longevity, because it speeds up oxidative stress and decreases your levels of superoxide dsismutase, glutathione and several enzymes related to the longevity.
The reason why saturated fats cause this is because the Human body was designed to survive and reproduce. When calories are low, your body switches into a survival mode, which speeds down metabolism and decreases the levels of sexual hormones - you can't spend energy reproducing if you're trying to survive. Conversely, when calories are abundant, the hypothalamus in the brain signals the release of luteinizing hormone, which travels to the testes and ovaries and orders them to produce more sexual hormones. The general rule is this: nature makes you live so you can reproduce, and the sooner you reproduce, the sooner you can age and die.
The modern diet, especially the steretypical American diet, which is characterized by an abundance of fatty treats, which almost never contain monoinsaturated fats by rather only saturated, results in early sexual maturation, accelarated ageing and death. The early sexual maturity of American girls is the result of the American diet of fast food. In Southern European, where people still have wholesome foods as the base of the diet, girls have their menarch much latter, and people age much slower. Hope this helps. :)

It's not that hard to get an extra roll in any movie I'm sure half of you could have got a extra in 300, I know a lot of guys who have been in Braveheart and a lot of other movies since Ireland is mainly used for Movies since it is cheap (Privat Ryans beach scene was also done in Ireland as far as I know), but the difference between them and Alexxx is that most of my buddies have to stop the movie and point out were they are standing (and you still cannot make out who of the 1000 of actors they are) and alexxx managed to get himself a scene were he can say... Saw that back... yeah that's me.
THAT is quit and archivment for an extra...So congrats for that.

It's not that hard to get an extra roll in any movie I'm sure half of you could have got a extra in 300, I know a lot of guys who have been in Braveheart and a lot of other movies since Ireland is mainly used for Movies since it is cheap (Privat Ryans beach scene was also done in Ireland as far as I know), but the difference between them and Alexxx is that they have to stop the movie and point out were they are (and you still cannot make out who of the 1000 of actors they are) and alexxx managed to get himself a scene were he can say... Saw that back... yeah that's me.
THAT is quit and archivment for an extra...So congrats for that.

you can see that people 100 years ago were smaller. go to any old time place or a civil war museum, you can see the door ways are a lot smaller than modern day shit. we had an old farm house on our property, from the late 1700's, and the cielings and doorways were like 7 feet. people have definately gotten bigger. i think some of it could be eugenics along with diet.

The early sexual maturity of American girls is the result of the American diet of fast food. Unfortunately, I don't have any. I saw this on a T.V program about the consequences of obesity. In passing, they mentioned that one of the consequences of the easy availablility of fatty treats was not only obesity, but that girls were menstruating sooner and that people were showing their firsts wrinkles in their thirties, when a truly healthy person should only start showing the first wrinkles in their fifties. Apparently, saturated fats increased both sexual hormones as well as oxidative stress. This was all mentioned only in passing. ???
