personally i think Shawn was a far better physique than Dexter, more mass, better legs by far, smae conditioning, what do you think?

No doubt that DEX is awesome, and I would dare to say, he gets dryer than Shawn did, but....
Shawn's legs were Much better (more seperated with a great sweep), and Shawn's back was better than Dex's as well..
I am not sure it would even be really close.

Dexter has a clear edge over Ray on muscle quality, hardness, density, sharpness & cuts; you can see it here on arms especially. Ray never had strengths in those areas, but had better balance & structure.
As far as personality, who's phonier than Shawn? ;)

Although Dexter may not be as "pretty" as Shawn, per the IFBB judging criteria, he would beat shawn. He is more muscular and better conditioned.

after seeing Dexter at the 2007 ASC and Aussie GP I can say we've now seen the best of each of these guys come and go.
But i think the 2004-2005 Dexter beats Shawn's best (96? 94?). If Dexter had better calves it'd be much clearer, but even without he still beats Shawn.
and you cant compare the two in any of their same contests, dexter developed later than shawn did

Although, Shawn needs to be taken to task for being over 40 and still wearing earrings, as he did at ASC.

Ray didn't have the same dryness, density, separation, sharpness or refinement. A little watery in comparison. Better balance.

ray is a leage of his own,,one of the best ever,,but you need to pay attention who dexter jackson compete against!!! that guy,,dex,,is the best walking bodybuilder on planet earth now days,,because at 225lb he put 275lb bodybuilders to shame,,he has call outs with beasts on a regular basis and he is not even close to their size,,yet give the impression he is only with a hell of a lot better condition

Dexter may have him beat on condition (on average) but shawn at his best just blows him out of the water. Dexters lack of calves, big obliques and high lats are a big knock on his physique IMO. This throws off his overall balance and aesthetics. Shawn's physique comes as close to perfection as it can get.

Shawn was way better. His calves were 10 times better, his frontal quads were 10 times more seperated. His serratus was better, his back was much thicker and seperated. He also had a much smaller waist and better overall symmetry. I am a huge dex fan but can be honest about the truth, Shawn at his peak would have destroyed dexter.

By the IFBB, everything is about muscularity and condition.
Things like flow, aesthetics, presentation, all things Shawn excelled at, are not rewarded by the judges.

In the shoulders?
No.
But in the chest, hamstrings, quads, calves, arms, abs, serratus, upper and lower back? Yes -- and sometimes Shawn exhibited notably superior conditioning in those areas. Any photo from '92-'95 would show that IMHO.

There is a pic of Shawn looking into a mirror while doing a triceps pose (he had glasses on). Shawn's tris were more ripped than Dex has ever been. And if you ever have seen Shawn's Final Countdown video, he looked phenomenal in that, better than Dex. Dex yes has great conditioning, but Shawn beats him on:presentation, conditioning, balance and structure. Dex is freaky ninja Turtle. And no way, shape or form could be compared to Flex, except for his cockiness and attitude.

Shawn hands down. I don't think Dexter lived up to all the hype of him being the next Flex Wheeler. The worse competitors have gotten, he still can't even manage to take the Mr. O.
Shawn should have taken it at least twice and would take it if he were competing today.

Bodybuilding has gone down since the 90s. that is why a person like Dexter is a sight for sour eyes in the new millennium.
Dexter could never beat Shawn. Shawn was one of the greatest. And I see it very unfortunate that he retired.
Dexter with his condition could have one Olympia titles in the 90s?? Meaning: Haney, Yates and Coleman. If Shawn, flex and Kevin couldn’t win an Olympia Dexter would never.
We have people like Jonnie Jackson come in with wide midsection, art atwood who no one knows what he is doing, King kamali who sabotaged his physique, then we have Markus with Synthol all around and Dennis who comes in pregnant.
All the mass monsters distorted the definition of balanced and symmetrical physique. That is why a guy like Dexter or Rockel is a big deal these days. This is how bodybuilding should have stayed.
We all know that Dennis doesn’t like shawn and he is close friends with Dexter so that is why he will say Dexter is better than shawn.

I'd give the conditioning edge to Dex.
But since BB is about the total package I'd say Shawn wins hands down, he has more of a polished look and is put together a little bit better.

No on all counts, it was never that cut & dry. Conditioning was *not* that great, usually some water, as the comparison pics here confirm. And he was too small. For overall balance guys like Padilla were better.

I am going by my personal opinion only and being from the "era" shawn was dominant in I am of course biased. Shawn is short and it hurt him on the big stage, I do agree there.

It depends on what judging criteria you think is most important
Shawn had great symmetry, no weak body parts, good conditioning, but he wasn't huge
Dex has good symmetry, a few lagging areas (calves, lats), extremely good conditioning, and he is more muscular than shawn
I would have to give it to Dexter
