It's amazing what a difference conditioning makes.  Sergio was the same physical size in 1984 as he was in 1985, but was harder and more ripped in 1985.  The slightest changes make a huge difference.

Word to the wise pros: you all have the muscle mass to do well in pro contests - just focus on coming in as hard as possible and forget about constantly packing on more mass.  I seriously believe that almost any pro can qualify for the Olympia in his pro card victory form.

Did you ever notice when someone posts pics of Pros from back when they won the NPC's (or whatever), to a man everyone says they looked better then.

I notice that often.  Take Chris Cook, Mat Duval, and King Kamali for example.  They are far from the only ones.

The thing is, bodybuilders have this idea and their heads (and sometimes rightfully so) that they need to get bigger to do better when in reality they may not even know that the exact same package they had when they were climbing up the ranks as an amateur is perfectly enough to succeed in the pros.

Melvin Anthony comes to mind. His video "Marvelous" was shot during his road to the 1999 USA's. He looked better, drier, and harder than he does now.

Our very own bob chicerello looked much better when he won the USA's compared to his pro career as well.

sergios wife at the time wanted him to try frank zanes contest diet sergio did and said he came in flat and not as hard for these shows. he said later on that it wasnt practical cause he was 50 or so pounds heavier on stage and trying to follow his diet.
