I was wondering what you guys consider excessive daily consumption of alcohol?
Have any of you had alcohol related problems?
And is consuming about 300 ml of 40% alcohol by volume daily harmful? Can it cause problems in the near future other then addiction.
-
To much is when you've puked your guts up in the toilet to the point where nothing comes up and it starts to hurt.
You then you collapse on the floor, pressing your head against the base of the toilet 'cos it feels nice and cool and makes you feel a little better.
Eventually (if you're lucky) you manage to crawl to the bedroom and drag yourself on to the bed, and as the room spins around and around you promise yourself 'never again'

Usually when I drink that much I feel really shitty the next day and don't drink for a few days before starting up again.
Seriously, will health problems result from having about 6 drinks a night? I feel nothing in the morning afterwards unless I have about 8+ drinks within 2-3 hours a night.
-
i have wine prolly 4 to 5 nights a week
some nights only a glass with din din
other nights i do a bottle or two
some nights i tap the cabinet and hit my scotch or rye
tonight i am feelin a little christmasy and i made a few brandy alexanders

I suppose it depends on what ypou are drinking. I'd imagine that, that amount of drinking every night you'll eventually end up with liver problems.
Me, I like to have a can of stella a night or a couple of glasses of wine. I don't get hammered any more but I can easily put away a couple of bottles of wine on the occasional weekend or 7-8 pints down the pub.
Alcohol: How Much Is Too Much?
The recommended weekly alcohol limit is:
3-4 units per day for men and
2-3 units per day for women.
One unit of alcohol is roughly equivalent to half a pint of normal strength beer, or a small glass of wine, or one pub measure of spirits. Check the bottle or can to see how many units there are in it. All this should be spread out over the week, so don't kid yourself that sticking to the limit but drinking it all in one go is somehow being healthy!
Similarly, if you regularly go over this amount, then you should think about cutting down your alcohol intake. Apart from all the things you can get up to when you're drunk, your body will suffer long-term if you put too much alcohol in it. Your liver, stomach, throat, kidneys and heart can all suffer from long term alcohol use (or abuse).
Binge drinking (downing twice the recommended daily intake in one session) is a growing problem, and according to a survey by Communities that Care, over a quarter of 15 and 16 year olds (male and female) binge three or more times a month.
We know the health risks, but it still doesn't stop us. Why? The experts say there are two reasons:
The British attitude towards booze is that, because it's a forbidden fruit when we're young, we associate it with being 'grown up', cool or rebellious. We carry that belief with us even when we're legally old enough to drink.
British pub opening hours give us a desperate need to cram in as much as we can before being turfed out just after 11pm.
The government hopes it has the solution. In 2003, they're trying to push through new legislation that allows pubs, clubs and bars to open 24 hours a day. The longer licensing hours, they believe, should allow us to drink at a more leisurely pace and reduce binge drinking.
Regularly Overdoing It
Of course at Christmas, or around a birthday, everyone overdoes it a bit and it's kind of expected. Going over the recommended limit occasionally does not mean you are an alcoholic or that you have a drink problem.
But if you find it hard or impossible to stick to the recommended level, if you're drinking too much too often, or if you regularly feel you really need a drink, that's when you should think about asking for help.
Ask yourself these questions:
Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking?
Have people annoyed you by criticising your drinking?
Have you ever felt guilty about your drinking?
Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?
Answering 'yes' to two or more of them means you may have an alcohol-related problem and that you should cut down. Your drinking could start to control you rather than the other way round.
Think you're overdoing it, or are you worried about someone else? Read on for more info about alcohol addiction.

before i put a serious crimp on it..i ws buzzing during the whole damn day..i ws teaching buzzed..
i'd wake up..have breakfast..have a scotch neat..go to work..have a ciggy on the drive over..
1 hour lunch me and another cisco guy would go pound shots and beer at a local bar...show back up..teaxch..then hit the bar after class..
then i'd go home drink and watch TV..i ws hardly eating..not being buzzed seemed wayy 2 boring
when it got to with me waking up and puking everymorning in the shower.from last days drinking and walking with a limp cause my sides hurt..twas time to leave the party..
i still have problems sleeping ..i dont know how unless i'm drunk..and here n there i slip up and go buy me a pint just so i can sleep..
but for the most part ..my training now puts me to sleep..thankgod..its one helluva shaky slow start..but its a start..
-
I usually drink at night, about 6 drinks roughly 250 ml of vodka or red label.

I do too. Unless I'm tired I have trouble falling asleep without marijuana or alcohol. I think alcohol has even overtaken weed as my drug of choice which is pretty akward.

one HUGE red flag is having trouble falling asleep with no booze in your system. That is when you know physical dependency is beginning. From then on the next step of making an "eye-opener" before work is not as far off as you think. Be careful.
I only drink on the weekends, mainly because I can't function at work hungover. If you can, good for you. But it is also good in that keeping it on the weekends limits potential dependency (at least physically)

For a bodybuilder?
"Daily" consumption of alcohol is excessive.
Unless you're only having one glass of wine or one beer, but what the hell's the point of that?
IMO, if you're drinking more than one or two days a week at most, you've got a problem.

I am drunk 4-5 nights a week...
-
I've had about 2 glasses of wine per night for about 15 years, never interfeared with my training or dieting!

Well alcohol is stress relief for me. I work hard through the day, study and then after 8 pm I start drinking. it's like the alcohol is a reward for all my hard work. I've been doing this for over half a year now and usually I'm up the next morning somtimes at 5 am for work, or usually later for school. Sometimes I consume over 6 shots and that's when it becomes a problem with hangovers on the next morning. If I'm at 6 or under then I have no problem during the next day. Alcohol hasn't messed with school or anything as of yet.
I'm not gonna drink tonight because it's a really bad habit I've built up and I'm sick of it.

i love drinking as much as anyone but you have to at some point draw the line and get real with yourself, keep it all in perspective.
yes its extremely liberating and entertaining while your doing it, but realistically its fucking with your body and mind.
it makes your body soft and your mind weak, so that your mind begins craving for the escape it provides at any little hint of stress or boredom.
thats what bothers me the most about my drinking, even more than the softening effect it has on my physique...its the knowledge that everytime i start up i know im 'giving in' and didnt have the mental strength to resist it. knowing ive opted for the escape. it makes me feel like a pussy.
bottom line i used to drink 3-4 days a week, now i stick to once a week.

If you're at home who cares, but if you're leaving a bar or party, TOO MUCH is when you're over the legal limit. Of course there are fools here that say they can drive fine over double the legal limit. ::)
-
i am definately what is known as a binge drinker. I wont touch a drop all week then go out and get f kin sh it faced most saturdays - although recently i have been smiking a bit more weed and this has helped to stop the binge drinking - i dont know which is worse for you though !! :'(

thats what i used to tell myself....then there ws a point where i'd hit up half a pint of jonny black at home..orr in the car driving to my dive....then ..a pitcher of some crap beer (bud)...about 6 shots or yager..at a dive bar.and then i'd be REALLY ready to go out and party...and i'd then drive home..if i let about 20 mins go between drinks i'd lose my buzz..as long as i drank plenty of water i NEVER got hangover..in my 10 yrs of drinking..i can maybe remember 2 hangovers..and the anount i put away woulda killed most..
anyhow..the wakeup call began when i started to retrain..to get back in the gym and it ws shocking how weak i had become..in my mind..i ws still strong..and posting on getbig like it ws still 6 yrs ago and i ws still strong..
keep it to one day/week..
personally..unless i slip..i dont drink..its for special ocassions only..like vacations..

i didn't drink last night. I felt great this morning! Got up at 8 and went for a jog, then ate breakfast, then went to class felling like a million bucks! We'll have to see how I can hold up without touching alcohol.
Thank you guys! I'm glad you guys shared your experiences and talked about your problems.
I'm not gonna give up drinking because I honestly can't kick the habit. But I'm only gonna drink twice a week from now on.

at least ya control it mate! :)

heres a thing i always wonder about. Although they say binge drinking is bad for you, i am convinced that it must be better for you to binge on say 20 drinks on a saturday then let your liver repair itself (which it does naturally apparently), than having 4 drinks every single day and never giving the liver a rest. Whats your thoughts guys ?
-
I only drink on the weekends but still know I have a problem.
Didn't drink last night and I'm not gonna drink tonight either.
My real problem is the urge to drink more and more. Like if I had a beer right now I'd have the urge to drink atleast six and after six I would tell myself atleast 10. :(
But I haven't drunk in 2 days straight and I feel good about myself.
-
I had a Bud who I'd have to say, drinking had something to do w/ his death from a brain tumor.
You cant continually knock down 1 liter of booze in a day and not have something give out.
He simply got to where he couldn't stop drinking, no matter how sick he was going to be. He'd Hide it from everyone. Kind of sick to watch. Another friends mom went same way, but Liver gone. 1 liter a day habit for a small woman. Her family tried to stop her,, but no way.
-
i have had a problem with it! you DO NOT have to drink every single day to have a problem with alcohol. if it has made your life unmanageable more than 2x, u have a problem. for example...getting a dwi more than one time, jail, loss of a day's work, loss of one's job, you try to stop, but can't, you switch the kind of alcohol you drink in order to not get drunk as fast, you drink and drive, you have blackouts, like you can't remember what you said the night before, or where you parked you car, etc, etc. these are all signs of addiction. there are also stages of it as well. if you think you have a problem chances are you do. try an a.a. meeting. it can't hurt. then, if after 90 days of abstinence from booze you decide you don't have a problem , then go and live it up!
-
I'm drinking once again and feeling damn good about myself. >:(
-
i mite go to an AA meeting for the experience

do you guys think i am joking?! this is no joke dudes! i'm an alcoholic, and i don't give a shit who i tell, as long as it helps the other person. addiction is not something to play around with. i have seen many die that thought thet could handle it on their own! (one guy was as young as 22, and now he's dead from a heroin and alochol overdose). if you think you have a problem, go to an f'in a.a. mmeting! there's nothing to be ashamed of....the shameful thing is not doing something about it!

He's right Alcohol is a nasty drug.But I personaly think I see more Teenage problem drinkers with the 21yr age limit;
Back in the days of 18yrs we were not so damn compulsive with fear of not loading up enough on it. We could all ways
get more, it was no thing. I see todays kids really binge BAD! They buy excessivly out of fear. I think the law did more harm than good.

I think pumping iron actually does has a DeTox effect-to a point. If you can just stop entirely, and reassess the situation can help. If your knocking it down in the morning is the beginning of probs for a many.
Sometimes ya got to part w/ drinking buds for a time if they are a trigger to you overdoing it.
A real good bud of mine died from a brain tumor, I believe it was alcohol related. He got so he could knock down a Liter of brandy in a day very often. Start in on it next day again w/ no food to speak of.
I bet he weighed down to 145lbs BW @ a bit over 6' tall. Sad. Got so he could not stop pouring it down even when you could tell he'd be deathly sick next day. He had no control anymore, he had to drink to feel ok, and he'd get sick from the drink. Try to hide it, get angry w/ those that tried to help, deny and make endless excuses.Vicious circle.
There's a lot of great stuff out there in the world to throw your life away like that. If you think you got a prob, back it off and stop awhile at least. Get professional help if you need it, thats not weakness. He had a real good job and left behind a large estate to those he would not have ever given it if he knew he'd die suddenly.
Get all you can out of life.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, bro. I like to drink, but nothing like a liter a day. It's just that after a long day I like to have the feeling fo intoxication before I drift off to sleep; I feel this way just about every night. I don't know whether or not I have a problem, or if can become a problem in the near future, but I have abstained a few nights and it didn't feel so bad to not have a drink.
I like to drink and I'm not gonna stop doing something that I like. What action I will take is controling my alcohol consumption to no more than 250 ml, which I think gives a great buzz while not being a huge amount of alcohol in itself.
-
Yeah, I aint all preachy, and I think people should live free, but drink does some real harm.
YOu'll see it as you get more miles on in life, take care enjoy.
