TORMENTED Britney Spears is facing bankruptcy after a huge two-year spending bender.
The singer, now in rehab, has blown £11million of her £16.5m fortune – and faces a big-money divorce.
Now she is banking on former lover Justin Timberlake to come to her rescue by helping to revive her pop career.
The troubled star, currently battling booze and drugs, is “scared to death” of plunging into the red when she leaves the Promises centre in Malibu, California.
Not only is she facing a megabucks divorce from wannabe rapper Kevin Federline, but she has also failed to make any new music for four years – while sales of money-spinning products such as her perfume have plummeted.
Her one glimmer of hope is a lifeline offered by top producer Timberland. He has already given a trendy spin to tracks by her ex Timberlake, 26 – who is said to have agreed to team up with Britney to give her career a boost.
Brit, 25, is desperately keen to see Justin again and is said to have begged him to pay her a morale-boosting visit.
Mobile phones are banned there, but sources say she has been overheard chatting to her ex on one she has had smuggled in.
A source told a mag in the States: “She was hiding in a closet and talking to a guy named Justin, probably Justin Timberlake.
“She was talking to him about coming to support her at a group Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. She kept saying: “C’mon Justin, please, please, please come!’ She was begging him.”
In the past two years, Britney has spent millions on luxury pads, lavish gifts and high living.
She is said to have frittered away much of the £16.5million she earned through hits such as Oops! I Did It Again.
And although she signed a pre-nuptial agreement, the mum-of-two has to give Federline – who is 29 tomorrow – a £2m pay-off and half the cash from the sale of their house, on top of her sky-high legal costs.
Britney’s career has also been shot to pieces by her recent out-rageous behaviour, including going knickerless on boozy nights out and shaving off her hair.
A family friend said: “She’s scared to death of what’s facing her when she gets out of rehab.
“She has to concentrate on staying sober, but she can’t do that if she has to worry about going broke – which is exactly what she thinks will happen.”
Producer Timbaland, 36, could be the answer to her prayers. He has offered to work with her and Justin on a new pop project.
Timbaland said: “I just want to hold her hand. I want her to be in my camp, to be around Justin. I need Justin to talk to her.
“I’m just the sort of person who wants to save the world.”
A pal told OK! magazine: “Salvaging her career is not a matter of saving face. “Britney has to get back on track to support herself and her kids.

She generated hundreds of millions in revenue, how much of that she was able to keep is hard for herself is hard to say. I would guess her net worth after her career died at somewhere around $40,000,000 but that's pure speculation.

I don't believe she ever HAD 100 million. I believe she MADE that much. There's a big difference.

problem is i dont see her having much of a career, she's not that special. she's got nothing on christina aguilera for example. she's not very talented.
why timbaland would work with her is beyond me. she had her time in the spotlight. it's over.

Industry recording contracts rip off the artist [if that term can be used here] in all kinds of ways. It's not the label that pays for those glitzy videos, you know.
Plus celebrities have a lot of overhead. The agent alone sucks up 10% of all their pre-tax income.
Then you've got attorneys to sue the websites that publish topless photos of you, the rehab facilities to help you with your substance abuse issues, publicists to deny that you're in rehab, bodyguards to keep the stalkers away, nannies to raise the children you're too busy to see, and personal assistants to throw your cellphone at.
So I'm sure Britney - ably abetted by Fed-Ex - has blown through a lot of her money. And her future income will be dramatically smaller - mostly residuals and the inevitable Playboy spread. But I'd be surprised if she ever declares bankruptcy.

Their valuation is based on what they think Britney Inc. is worth, not how much she has in the bank. The problem for Britney is that her stock has dropped so dramatically in the past couple of years that her future earnings from albums and tours are very much in doubt. So, at this point, her value IS what she has in the bank.
I'm sure if Forbes assessed her value today, it wouldn't nearly be in the 100 million range.

I thought net worth was a calculation of assets, both liquid and not...
IE, what's in the bank... holdings (stocks and bonds) and property.
I'd bet with her mansions and other things, she's worth at least 100 Million.

They also use the value of a person's businesses. Puff Daddy's net worth is largely based on the perceived value of Bad Boy and Sean Jean, not just how much he has in the bank, in the market, in real estate etc. Those businesses are worth something, right?
There are also intangible assets that contribute to value and net worth, and attaching a dollar amount to that type of asset is largely guesswork.
For example, the Golden Arches of McDonald are obviously an asset. As we speak, people are pulling into a McDs because they saw the Arches. But, how much are they actually worth? It's hard to say.
A reputation of a company is also an asset, but it's hard to quantify. I'm sure Britney's houses aren't worth as much now that her career has fallen off a cliff and her rep has taken such a hit. If she attempts to sell, now, potential buyers will smell blood and try to lowball her on the price.
Even the value of a person's stock holdings is not what it appears. For example, Bill Gates' net worth is based largely on the value of his Microsoft stock. But if he were to cash out tomorrow, the price of the stock would drop dramatically, because the market couldn't absord so much at one time. There wouldn't be enough buyers.
