Okay, how many hubcaps did that Charger lose? BTW, that Charger was the most sinister of Badguy rides. And that sound.....

I think the Charger lost 9 hubcaps, and passed the VW bug about 4-5 times. Been awhile since I've seen the chase.
There is a cool scene, at one of the turns, where you can see the Mustang (with the 390ci) actually slam into the camera stand. None of the drivers could negotiate the turn, including McQueen who was once a stunt driver and did a lot of the actual driving in the movie.
There is also a part that you can (easy to grab on the DVD, but harder on VHS) where as the Mustang lands from one of the hill jumps, the car bottoms out and crushes the oil pan and you see the black smoke then the camera cuts to another angle. They actually had to re-weld the pan on/underneath the car.

Seriously - Ronin. Top marks for sustained action and believability.

Damn I didn't know that...Also I think he passed the cream Yellow Pontiac Firebird like 5 times as well.Seriously - Ronin. Top marks for sustained action and believability.
I think they dubbed the car's exhaust sounds, they do that in today's movies.
The Mustang and Charger in Bullitt...sounded more badass than the cars in Ronin.
