Title: CARS
Post by: william on March 23, 2007, 05:17:04 PM
I just totaled my baby a few months back it was a 2004 mach1 with some mods. I loved that car but have struggled to find a suitable replacement until today. I just bought a 06 GTO and I am so pleased with the GM performance I still like Fords, but I am slowly moving over to the GM side.

My ex-business partner bought a new one a couple years ago.  Really fast and really nice.  He told me it was the only one in Hawaii with a turbo I think.  There was something special about it.  But a really nice truck.

Sorry to here that. my dad is a Ford man, thru and thru. Trade in that car for a 08 or 09 Camaro, Black. That thing is wicked.

That is a steal...I'm calling the police ;D. Yeah, it is a sleeper. The woman at work liked to beat guys at the light, especially the guys with the modded Honda Civics.

The GTO is fast but it's a piece of shit. It's just a damn Holden from Australia with some minor styling changes. Sorry but I hate it when a company turns a ledgendary car into another cookie cutter that has no originality. That being said I like Holdens especially the new Commodore.

well I am a sort of historian of muscle cars and yes it is definatly not an original GOAT But it is a pretty impressive machine. much more powerfull that any old goat of the lot.  the biggest thing about the car is the ability to drive it.  I worked at a drag strip for 4 and a half years and still frequent them. a GTO will turn 14.0 with a regular driver and they can turn 12.9 with a great driver.  even at that NO GTO of any era ever ran that well.  Its not that I cared that they called it a GTO i didn't.  I only wanted the car for what it was not what it got called.

   Very impressive numbers. Wow.
It's amazing how far technology has taken the horsepower of these computer controlled street cars..The great thing about it is you can have a perfect 15:1(actually I think it is around 14.7  ;D) air fuel ratio all the time. That just  ain't gona happen with a  1050 dominator...ever. hahaha   How many cubic inches is that thing? EVEN IF IT WERE 500 cubic inches that is still 2 hp per cubic inch..How the hell do you get it to hook on the street... ;) or do you?
How much does it cost to have one put on the dyno?

Like I said I like Holdens and think they are great but I just cannot accept the modern day GTO, it's just against everything I stand for and I hate when cars have absolutely no originality other then the badging. The new top model G8 will also be a Holden (the Commodore) whic hI am not happy about but don't mind as much since it's techincally a new model from Pontiac and not a fake as remake of a ledgendary car.

4.6(281)stroked out to 5.0,but at the time of the dyno i was running 36 psi thru a t-96 turbo ;D

i just installed laminated head gaskets,if you do not have them i strongly recomend them

i race from 40 mph and can spin em in any gear at any mph

dyno is free, because i know the guys at houston performance and uti but if i had to pay never over $50 per 3 runs

Damn, how does the engine hold up to all that. Is it the 4.6 liter, or is it a crate engine? I'm guess it is a crate, cause i don't see a cammer engine dealing with all that.

I think at one point GM was thinking of the new GTO being a new platform from the ground up but decided to go the cheaper route and re-badge the Holden.

I beleive it was a bandaid for the Pontiac brand, I think they do have a new RWD platform for the next GTO, if they build it. Because they have to get the platform ready for the new Camaro. IF they have a new GTO, supposedly it have to share it's platform with Buick and Buick doesn't want a RWD platform, as they are trying to mimic Lexus (read an American Lexus--when Lexus stands for Luxury EXport United States).

I could get in trouble in a Gremlin.  :-\   I had a chevette when I was 16 and literally busted the shifter off of the top of the transmission practicing power shifting.  ;D  I then removed the console and there was about 3 inches of the shifter rod sticking through the floor...I wrapped a shop rag around it and drove it like that for a long time.

Their new platforms at least for all performance models in the near future are basically all re badged Holdens. Both the G8 and G6 are basically the Holden HSV and Holden Commodore. The new top of the line G6 looks pretty cool.
