Title: MuscleMag - 300th anniversary issue
Post by: Colossus_1986 on March 30, 2007, 11:02:08 AM
This issue Kicks ass!
I was always an occasional MMI reader, stuck more to
MD and rarely FLEX, but this one is on the money!
-Lee Priest's Column (+ full list of his tattoos...very cool)
-The awards page...
-Tribute to Canadian Pro bodybuilders...etc.
Overall a good issue, not 300 pages of Ads like MD! haha
dumbass blechman...like when he says:our biggest issue yet! Translation: we've added 65 more pages of muscletech Ads!!
anyways has anyone else checked it out>?

Gee, I wonder if Lee's first 'ballsy' column is all CAPS?  :D

no it's not...it's quite good actually.

Theres a nice pic in the mag of Mike Aseidu...(this guy is the next Canadian star bodybuilder)
awesome physique...
also
theres a cool thing on Rodney St.Cloud's move to the PDI, it shows how little he made in the IFBB in so many years, and also stated that a top IFBB official called him on the phone and sort of "threatened" him if he decided to go to PDI...anyone know who that might be?

So this mag has been around for 300 years?  Does Kennedy even know that anniversary stands for year?  What a dumbass for plastering this on the cover.  Duh!

Just how long have they been around?

His cover says 300th Anniversary Issue.  I presume if they print 1 issue a month means they have been around 25 years.  He is short 275 years.

it's not even a magazine anymore, it's just a catalog for Muscle Tech supplements.  ::)

I believe MuscleMag started publishing in 1974. They were quarterly at first. Issue 300 marks the 34th year. I continue to read and enjoy MuscleMag, Muscular Development, Flex, and IronMan.

Hmmm largest misconception of all time.
How are they a catalog of Muscltech supplements, when they have less than MD? MD has a special editorial section devoted to the newest Muscletech "Research Findings" when a magazine lets a supplement company jump on it's editorial staff I'd say they are NOT A MAGAZINE ANYMORE

sure md has alot of mtech ads but atleast they print some interesting articles. musclemag and ironman are the worst magazines on the market.

In general, I don't have a problem with heavy advertising in MD because they make for it with heavy editorial content, but I agree that ads should not be presented as editorial content.

I haven't looked at MuscleMag.

But Ironman feels like The New York Review of Books compared with FLEX (which I'll acknowledge as a guilty pleasure).

His cover says 300th Anniversary Issue

While the word anniversary technically means a yearly occurrence, it doesn't matter, as we all know what is means. 300th anniversary issue means the 300th copy of MuscleMag Magazine, which is a nice milestone to reach.

Congratulations.

one would think someone who publishes a magazine would know the correct use of the language in which they publish

MuscleMag first came out in 1707... excellent. I remember the big Sir Walter Raleigh v. Benjamin Franklin issue. Sir Walter was tight, but Benjamin was much better.

It reminds me of an article that Bob Kennedy wrote in an issue not too long ago titled something along the lines of "blast your lowers" - even though "lower biceps" do not exist anywhere in human anatomy.

Then again, FLEX is guilty of the same...

I agree. The old "Uncensored" column was great...until about 2000-2001 when Zulak started to disguise muscletech plugs for actual advice.

I hope Lee's association with Muscle Mag works out.  He has had a string of bad luck over the past year and hopefully 2007 is a lot brighter.

Lee has made some poor choices over his career; the face tatoo, his marriage to Cathy desintergrating, the Adela fiasco, manic behaviour and the termination of lucrative contracts, just to name a few.

Hope everything goes well for the little guy. He deserves a break!

You guys all forget that Tom Paine got SCREWED at that show. He should have won. I've seen the illustrations. His loss helped fuel his drinking.

Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac was coming out that year. The publishers needed him to place high to promote the publication. That's why Franklin placed above Paine.

I will not, however, dispute the Marquis de Lafayette's placing out of the top 10. He was way too smooth.

Yeah, it's not like accuracy is important or anything.  This IS the "bodybuilding industry", after all, not a real industry.  ::)
