Title: New MD
Post by: pumphard on March 31, 2007, 12:25:34 PM
Anybody checkout the new Muscular Developement mag for this month?  They are now using cheaper paper, and its noticeable.  It was such a turnoff, that I didn't even purchase it.

Haha no I'm going to have to go check it out, printing a 600 page advertisement book must be expensive had to switch to the newspaper paper.

I got the April issue free at the Arnold Expo. Starting this month I will have to go back to paying for my MD's...

I love how MD has articles that say that so many supplements out there are pure crap, followed by 20 pages of ads for those same supplements.

And don't get me started on those "special six page ad reports"... No one reads that crap!!!

You know what's funny... I just picked up the new issue of MuscleMag with Priest on the cover and they had LESS 6 page special reports than MD did... Which I found funny, because isn't Robert Kennedy a head wig of MuscleTech also?

I found that more than just a little curious.

All those mags insult our intelligence in that regard, but there is no BS-free mag out there, so these will have to do...

Right, Planet Muscle used to be the only non BS magazine out there. Funny how Jeff would always tell the reader how he does not accept advertiser and puts a limit on the number of advertisement allowed in his magazine. Then next year he sated writing about Optimum nutrition, then praised viraloid, and it got out of control. Oh well nothing good last for long

I agree... get that shit from zinio, it's a better looking read than what you get from the store... If you get a tablet PC, you can read it page at a time... It's nice.

In the April issue of MD, page 197, there's an ad with before/after pictures claiming "10% loss in body fat" and"300% increase in size" (emphasis added) in just ten weeks... On page 272 or so, there are before/after pics of Johnny Jackson that are supposedly 6 weeks apart, in which his physique changed tremendously thanks to "Celltech and other Muscletech supplements"...

Couldn't they at least try to make their lies more believable?!

Speaking of ON, as far as I know, they haven't employed this kind of advertising technique, with all the outrageous claims...

Yes, If I'm going to spend 10 bucks on a mag, I want it on nice solid paper with a good gloss on it.

first, you must really be stupid to spend money on a "bbinbg" mag.

Actually I was talking about this with someone and he was looking at this in a relative sense: people just beginning to workout may actually like having more ads in a magazine, rather than less.  I know when I first got started I spent more time reading the ads than the actual magazine.  These days I skip over them though.

MD was a good mag 3-4 years ago, it has gone straight to the shitter, it is about 80% supplement ads now.

Times are lean in the muscle rag trade...

If they have to be a little less coy about what business they're in, I'm sure they'll get used to it.

Hahahhaha can you imagine what it'd be like if MD gave DA his own column? It would make Valvolino's type-set diarrhea look like Milton and Shakespeare in comparison.

Imagine page after page of crap like "TEH FVCUKIN GETBIG HATRRZZ WHERE TALKIN ABOUT ME HAHAHAHHAHAA LMAO!!!! SO I TOLD TEHM TO CUM TO ME AT TEH EXPO FCUKEN GETBIG HATRZZZ!!!!!! HAHAHAHA LMAO I WAS DOIN G4P LAST NITE AND TEH GUY'S DENTURES FELL OUT HAHAHAHAH!!!..."

No no no the best one is with their Mass-Tech articles.  They claim that mass tech "Puts muscle directly onto your arms and chest!"  I fell out of my chair when I read that nonsense.

MD used to criticize FLEX for putting pretty boy Gunter on the cover instead of scary looking black dudes who were doing better in contest and saying that FLEX only did that to sell.  MD "kept it real" and as a result didn't do as well financially.

I think now they are trying to tweak their business model to what makes money rather than what is ideal.  G4P seems to do that.  All the power to MD, as it is free enterprise.  I prefer their old model though.
