absolutely insane shoulder strength he simply toys with pressing those massive logs with no leg kick.

insane thickness through the traps, delts, arms, etc.
his immense thickness is best appreciated when compared to the other competitors.
seriously, in the 81 event he makes them look like school boys.

Bill was an absolutely fearless competitor in strongman....I get more inspired to train by watching these videos of Bill than any IFBB pro clips on youtube. If anyone has more clips of the mighty KAZ please post them!

hell yeah, when you see flipping cars and such, it puts into perspective how strong you're not. the guy's mind had no limits.
btw, someone mentioned a while back about kaz cheat curling 400lb.
i have no fucking doubt that he could cheat curl 400lbs now.

incredible that he only got 5 reps with the 165's though. I know its almost a cliche now but when you see Ronnie doing 12 with the 200's you realise how good he is at pressing movements. Still Coleman is no Kaz!
-
I believe he did those 165's for shoulder presses. Not chest presses.

ronnie is definitely an extremely strong guy, no doubt, but his movements on the vids are not full range of motion by any means.
then again, i never saw katz press the d.b's so who knows, they might have been short too :-\
what impressed me most about katz was his functional all round strength and power eg. pressing the log, flipping cars, tossing heavy ass barrells like they were made of fucking fairy floss, etc. he really was an incredible athlete.
the only thing he had in common with ronnie is that they were both interested in being as strong and massive as possible within the parameters of their respective endeavours ie ronnie still maintain low body fat and katz maintain explosive speed and some agility.
i'm not a big fan of the current state of powerlifting and the focus on using any device/tool/aid/trick available to lift heavier weights. it seems more smoke and mirrors to me than athletic.
not saying that guys competing in wsm events don't do the same. it is what an athlete does. it just seems that the governing bodies of wsm events are much more consistant with their rules and regulations and thus they don't lose sight of their intention ie discover the strongest man in the world as opposed to a person who just turns up at an event with a bunch of people screaming like idots and intimidating judges while they do everything but lift the fucking weight.

Before he launched his career as a strongman, he worked as an oil rig rough neck, lumberjack and a bouncer in some really rough bars.
He also competed in the World's Strongest Man Contests. He competed in six of them. In 1979, he came in third. From 1980 until 1982, he won the competitions handsdown. He was the first man to win the WSM title three times in a row. In 1981, he tore his pec while bending cold rolled steel bars in the WSM. This makes his 1983 IPF championship all that much more significant. After this tear, he lost more than one-hundred pounds off his bench. He was forced by the organizers of the WSM into a premature retirement in those competitions. He was simply too dominant in the WSM. The organizers decided not to invite the reigning WSM back to compete for several years.
While he worked as the Strength and Conditioning coach at the University of Auburn, the University's National Strength Research Center evaluated every aspect of Kaz. In 1983, he returned for a brief stint in the WFL. He turned down offers from the Jacksonville Bulls.
In 1981, he tried out for the Green Bay Packers; however, he had to leave camp because of his pec injury....not bad for a being an iron junkie

very impressive.
Theres something to be said for guys like kaz, who just wanna be as big and as strong as possible, but as BEAST said staying as explosive etc aswell. Its like he wasnt interested in just looking big and symetrical like bodybuilders, and size probs wasnt his main concern, yet he turned out to be freeking huge. I mean legs, back, delts and traps wer massive.
Not that his arms and chest werent impressive, just al round freak (in a good way).
