just read in Powerlifting USA that the best raw bencher of all time big Jim Williams passed away at age 66, the man officially benched 675 raw and unofficially benched 700 raw in 1972 in front of many, many, many witnesses at York Barbell.

he had a crazy regimen for a PL'er, he trained more like a bodybuilder, isolation movements along with the big lifts and a lot of reps on some movements.

R.I.P.
He was a great lifter.

yeah like i said he sometimes would bench heavy EVERY DAY, used to do a brutal amount of work for delts like giant sets with huge weights in db presses, presses behind neck, front raises with 100 pound plates, lateral raises, he also trained at a pretty quick pace.

he only did 19 total reps for the bench per workout, the session would go 315x8, 405x5, 475x3 and then a heavy single with 635,655 or 675 then 2 reps with 600 to finish, kind of like what an Olympic lifter does, he used to say "your mom wouldn't be considered a good cook if she only cooked twice a month would she?"
