Title: Dreamfield's Pasta - protected carbs???
Post by: WhiteHulk4 on April 11, 2007, 06:46:44 AM
Does anyone know about this stuff?  It says that:

* Only 5 grams of digestible carbs per serving
* 65% lower glycemic index than regular pasta
* Twice the fiber of regular pasta
* Naturally cholesterol free
* 0 grams of trans fat

Dreamfields Carb Facts:
Total Carbs: 42 g
Protected Carbs*: -37 g
Digestible Carbs: 5 g
* Carbohydrates that are "protected" from digestion in small intestine.

What in the F#CK is a "protected carb"???  Here's the ingredient list (which seems to be roughly the same as normal pasta):

Ingredients: Enriched semolina, [semolina, iron (ferrous sulfate), and B vitamins (niacin, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid)], fiber blend (inulin, guar gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan, pectin), sorbitol, wheat gluten, potassium chloride.

I'd stay away from that wheat gluten  ;)

Try Barilla Plus products which make pastas with complete proteins in them as well as a high fiber content.  The taste isn't bad (I even have my kids eating them).

Agreed. It's good stuff, my wife even eats it & she's really picky.
