10:21 - MSNBC: Students are urged to lock their doors and stay away from windows. Whatever is happening is happening now. I know Cav22 and a few others here go there/did go there.
Be careful. 1 person killed, 1 injured.
7:30 AM _ shooting at a dorm there.
10:00 AM - second shooting incident.
After second shooting, campus police announced there is a gunman loose on the campus.

The schoolwide announcement system is not working, according to students they are speaking to on the telephone. However the students did receive emails.
The first shooting occurred at a freshman dorm.
There have been two bomb threat incidents in the last 2 days. Two kids have jumped from the top story of a building trying to sescape, one hurting his ankle.
V Tech student newspaper now reporting they have caught the gunman. He has been arrested. unconfirmed, and may have just been overcautious police pulling a suspicious looking guy into custory to be safe. No confirmation from them yet.

Didnt a bunch of Chetsnian rebels blow up/kill 300 grade school students in a gym last year? Lax security on campus was responsible for this. Not a person being able to buy a gun. What a terrible situation.
I feel terrible for those kids that where doing nothing more then attending class.

Honestly pumpster I am not making excuses, nor trying to debate gun laws in this thread. I am posting because I feel awful for the victims of this tragedy.

Totally disagree. If you know anything about criminals, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT GUN LAWS. Criminals don't abide by the law at all, that's why they are criminals. Gun laws were put in place to appease the people who were against guns.
Now mind you I see no reason for an assault rifle or assault weapons to be availble to the public, law enforcement should have them to combat the criminals that have them, but having a gun of my own to protect my family from someone trying to enter my premises and cause bodily harm is having the ability to fight back.

Japan's culture is also one of respect for others, unlike here in the US. They respect authority and have a code of honor. Women are also not allowed to show their pubic hair on film. :) Criminal activity happens in Japan too, it's just not that spectacular.

So yea, anyone wanna talk about the 30 plus kids who lost there lives today. It was reported the gun man was a student? Makes it extremely difficult to stop something like this when it is done by a student of the school. Anyone who has attended college knows how easy it is to move around campus if you are a student with the proper id. Backpacks chock full of books and such are a common thing.

While that's true are you suggesting that that you make firearms illegal to have and own? Like marajuana and cocaine? Making them illegal to own WON'T stop the criminals.
Common sense= make illegal, it's still around just more risk when you are "caught".
As for leaving doors unlocked, apparently Michael Moore's documentary "Bowling for Columbine" showed him going around Canada and opening people front doors. And he's now against owning guns.
And now you live in NYC, so in your opinion if you had a liscense to conceal a weapon on you, you wouldn't feel a little safer for your life? My cousin lives in Brooklyn and has had his home broken into several times. Lucky he wasn't home each time, but anytime that could change. He now owns a firearm and will use it if he is put into that position to protect himself.

I think he went to the engineering building so he was probably an engineering major. Engineering is a brutal and at a school like Va Tech, it's probably insane. Probably played some role in it.

You know, for once I agree with Pumpy. I'm all for the right of mentally capable adults owning guns, as long as they're fully responsible for their actions, but when purchasing a gun is easier than purchasing a can of beer, then you know we have a problem.

I know, right? Theoretically, I delivered the word to their students via computer 30+ minutes before they sent out a campus email. I immediately thought of Cav (wrong school tho), but with a population of 30,000 folks, it's pretty likely that at least some VT kids or parents post/read here.
Irresponsible police work there. They ASSUMED it was the dead girls' boyfriend and never made a campus announcement. THey didn't want the bad PR.

It happens everywhere, regardless of gun laws. Last year 20 kids were shot on campus in Montreal. Some guy got the panic on his cellphone as he was running away. It's difficult to control a situation when you have hundreds of people trying to escape.
