Yep, thats what is facing the Rooster!! The tad bit of steroid usage i've done over the years, docs say it has cut the blood supply off to my hip. Plan is to drill 6 holes in my hip in a few months, then wait 6 months to see if it begins blood supply back to the hip, if not then take the pain as long as I can and have Total Hip Replacement.
But , i'd not change a thing, I enjoyed my years as a beast at 270, i'd do the roids all over again. I'd rather have been a shooting comet than a star that burned dimly for years and years. yep, i'd rather be that star that streaked across the sky burning in a blaze of glory. But gawd all mighty, my damn hip hurts!
Some of you will rejoice so lemme have it, Rooster is an old man, his hip is shot, time to become the Bionic man and get a new one! Open me up doc!

Thats brutal. I don't wish that on anyone but I highly doubt it had to do with steroid usage. Lots of people take way more than guys like us and they don't have any such problems. Steroids are not nearly as "bad" as people make them out to be but like any good thing they will cause you great harm if abused bigtime.

Let me re-phrase.
A guy who takes 5000mg's per week is more likely to have problems down the road over a guy who only takes 500-1000mgs total. You drink 6 beers and your fine....you drink a whole 24 and your going to the hospital. Understand?

bo jackson had his hip done when he played football, he took a hit on his hip and the blood supply stopped to his hip nessestating a total hip replacement. i had my hip done make sure you get a top surgeon to do it. i had my right hip done 5 times due to infection etc. that's why i'm holding off doing my left for now. good luck.

They confirmed your condition, not what caused it.
Most doctors are as bad as soccer moms when it comes to understanding AAS.... all they know is they're "bad", and they're "killing our children". ::) So, when a patient presents with a condition they are not completely sure what caused, and the patient mentions he has a history of AAS use, the doc does the same thing the soccer-mom does... adds 2 and 2 and gets 5... "ah-HA! The steroids are the culprit!" ::)

I'm just gonna assume doctors know a tad more than you. Really doesn't matter what caused it but all 3 have said there has been a link shown between steroids and blood supply to the hip but really doesn't matter what caused it.
also, i don't think Bo Jackson has ever had his hip replaced, he may have but from what i've read, he like me is putting it off.

Yup, it was steroids ::)
http://orthodoc.aaos.org/MarkKatzMD/AVNStrikesYoung.html (http://orthodoc.aaos.org/MarkKatzMD/AVNStrikesYoung.html)
The most common risk factor is the use of oral or IV steroid medications (corticosteroids such as Prednisone). These medications are typically used for patients with asthma, inflammatory arthritis, Crohn’s disease, severe allergies, spinal cord trauma, and many other disorders. Although there is no absolute risk of developing AVN with use of limited steroids (like short-course steroid dose packs), there have been few reports in the literature of its possible risks.

I'll do better next time. See I face hip replacement with a positive attitude, crying about it does no good, you just do what you have to do.
And like i'd ever really let this place get to me? Who gives a crap what teeny boppers post on a website called Get Big? Remember those that attack are most likely pre-puberty kids like Squadfather with 80% bodyfat.

Famly doctors don't know shit about AAS. Hope this helps.
3 of them confirmed it, one was Dr. Andrews, the doctor that works with all the athletes.
Sorry, they know way more shit than you do so i'll leave my fate in their hands, not some teen that benches about 185 and thinks he knows it all. Actually doesn't much matter what caused it.
But 3 doctors have said there is a link between AAS and blood supply to the hip. Sorry, they outweigh your opinion by about 9000000 to 1 in useful brain cells.
-
Fallacy.
Just because these doctors know more than me on some absolute scale doesn't mean they know more than I do about AAS and its effects on the body. Did they offer you any evidence as to how AAS caused this or did they just say it with no proof?
I didn't ask for proof, didn't care if thats what caused it or not, its happened.
But you have shown no proof either other than puffing your chest out and claiming to know more.
Dr. Andrews is the finest bone doc in the united states, i trust he knows his shit. more than i'd ever trust a getbigger. lmao
-
shit, that's pretty bad news. i think it is genetically determined though, in my family my maternal grandmother had a hip replacement, my mom has weak hips, and right now my sister is complaining about hers. i hope this shit stays on the female side of the family (i know, i'm a hero).

Exactly...Its called...argument of experience=Fallacy..
This means that..
Though your doctor knows more about medicine. if you had a problem relating to steroids you might want to refer to a bodybuilder about the effects before you take advice from a doc...Being in med school as well as a bio major and health/nutrition minor in undergrad from morehouse college....i can tell you we dont cover AAS indepth because there arent many defenitive answeres on the serious negative effects. You can look at the "steriod related deaths" and none of them can definativley point out roids as the overwhelming factor. The point is that steroids just dont have many research journals reporting effects....i say allllllthat to say. that its not a huge topic in the medical community. not nearly as big as in the bb community...shit my doc said that i shouldnt take creatine...thats because he dosent know about it as far as supplementation
LOL matt i took the same Argument class in undergrad too.

not internal medicine or pharm.

Nope... according to Old Rooster and Dr. Feelgood, your granny, mom, and sis are all roid-heads! :o
-
You know, when it first came out, the FDA approved of D-bol. There's no actual medical evidence supporting the larger side effects of steroids, blame that on lack of testing, but you'd think they'd be bothered to test something before pronouncing it dangerous. Same with ephedra. Anyways, point is, how they determined having more testosterone in your system at some point cut off the blood to your hip is beyond me, but I'd find another doctor. 'Parently he ain't so smart.
