Title: Sandow - The first bodybuilder
Post by: joelbrandw on April 17, 2007, 01:24:32 PM
I just posted a new web project that I worked on with David Chapman, a well known historian of bodybuilding.

David is currently working on Chris Dickerson's book. He also wrote "Sandow the Magnificent: Eugen Sandow and the Beginnings of Bodybuilding" and has a monthly column, "Gallery of Ironmen", that appears in Ironman Magazine.

Stop the misinformation!  Sandow was not the first bodybuilder!

Bodybuilding has existed since time in memorium.  Eugene just did his bit to promote and market it.  He was a showman with an ugly and undermuscled physique!

Ah, yes, GetBig . . . I almost forgot . . . where controversy can begin where there is none.

Read a book, learn something and spare folks your ill-informed pronouncements.  :P

Sandow- The  first bodybuilder....what a load of absolute rubbish.

The man simply did his bit to popularise it.  He was a showman, nothing more.   He had great marketing skills, i will give him that.

Bodybuiding is an ancient passtime, period.  Eugene had a repulsive physique by todays standards.

Sandow was also infamous for his interest in the training of young males.  A very dubious and vile role model.

Hank

Of course it's nothing special by TODAY's standards.

Sandow was then, this is now.

The standards of today have changed from back then IMMENSELY.

Sandow did not have access to what we know and have nowadays.

But back then, he was impressive to the people.

Kwon,

What are you talking about?  I do not have an issue with Sandow's undermuscled physique.   My point is simply that,  Sandow is not the 'first bodybuilder'.

I  am not trying to start an argument with you Kwon. Just stating the facts!

  Peace; no offence intended.
